Default launching Guild Wars reboots XP

I have read several posts concerning rebooting, but have not found any relating to GW rebooting the PC when launching the game. I encounter this at random times like when an update hits. It downloads the update, loads the login screen and then reboots the PC.

WIN XP pro SP3
P4 2.4ghz
PNY FX5900XT AGP
Forceware 53.03- 175.19
WD 1200JB
2 gig PC3200
500w PSU
Scertre X9 Komodo7 1280x1024 and 1024x768 ingame med settings.
all hardware running under 40C

This seems to only happen after an update that I have seen.

It's the video drivers - have you updated them for your card lately?

If you have - then try reverting to the previous version (you might also consider using Driver cleaner before you load the old version). If you haven't updated lately then try updating the drivers to the latest version.

If you're an Nvidia owner then you're lucky as Nvidia seem to do things to standard and it causes GW little hassle - if you're an ATi person (like me) then you'll tear hair out and then start searching eBay for an Nvidia card.

I can't guarantee that you'll never have a crash with the latest drivers but from my experience, they only happen once in a blue moon with recent drivers.

on the contrary, you'll find every video card problem on these forums to involve... nvidia cards. i haven't have to deal with an AMD radeon issue since becoming a mod here. more specifically, the 9x00 series seem to seriously dislike guildwars for some bizarre reason.

on the contrary again, oblivion runs at 60+ fps on mine with new catalyst drivers. granted, it did that with the drivers that came with my card, which is 8 months old.

AMD had bad drivers... 6 years ago. i think it's time get on with things, and not live in the past.
