Hello,

This is my first post here. I hope it can be helpful.

I'm a mac user... I'm also able to play Guild Wars on my macbook with a few simple steps.

First, get a copy of Crossover. You can buy it online (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/)

Install crossover, and open it.

Go to Configure --> Install Software

Follow the wizard and install GW on your mac.

You should now be able to go online with your INTEL mac (Sorry PowerPC users) on Guild Wars.

why would you want to buy crossover when wine works just as well? in fact, wine works better than crossover if you're a linux user like me and you know how to tweak stuff. and more importantly, WINE IS FREE.

I got free copy of crossover for my MBP, and i couldn't get it to work, the texture were all jumpy and it was basically unplayable. I ended up bootcamping it and it works great.

I am aware of using just wine... I have other applications that I use under Crossover that dont' run as well under wine.

It works fine for me on my Macbook...

I have a 2.0GHZ White Macbook, 4GB of RAM

yes, we know we can run GW on Mac OSX. the real question is: why would you want to?

EDIT: i see it is too late to actually reply, so i'll just calm all you mac/linux fanatics here: my point is, why would you run it on mac OSX, having to use a third party application, when you can just install windows? windows 7 RC is entirely free and fully functional, and you'll be able to run your games at 100% of your hardware's capabilities, instead of around 50% (only if you are lucky).

lastly, anyone still claim that windows is inefficient and insecure needs to have their heads examined. there isn't ANYTHING that you can do on your mac/linux systems, that i couldn't do on my windows machine. in fact, mine can do one thing than your mac/linux systems can't: play games without resorting to 3rd party hacks.

Great question. The answer could be: because some people really work on their laptop and don't waste their hardware on a crappy unworkable and insecure system like Windows? None in my company has a windows workstation or laptop (software development company).

Is it so hard to imagine? I can't believe the attitude of people like you.

The bottom line is - yes, you can get GW to work using Crossover or Wine, or etc., with varying results. The best method is to use Bootcamp and WindowsXP.

Edit: in order not to get involved with the brewing OSX vs Windows battle, let me state that I don't see any problem with people wanting to run GW on a Mac. Regardless of how you feel about the issue, the reality is that there is no native OSX version of GW so you need to resort to one of the usual methods to get it to work.
I would also state that, regardless of how you feel about the stability or security of Windows, when you use WinXP on your iMac only to run GW, security or stability is not an issue.

If windows is so crappy then why are YOU the one that has to do something special to get the game to work? If linux was so great then everyone would use it, but its not, so they don't.

The success of Microsoft in flooding the market with their operating system and superiority of any operating system aren't related. The Apple operating system isn't more prolific primarily because of Apple's ineptitude in the 80's and 90's on the business side of running a technology company, not the technology side. Apple has since corrected that, which is why they absolutely dominate Microsoft and other competitors with devices like ipod and iphone.

And actually..in business everybody does use linux, or they wish they did. In future years I expect this will trickle from the business community to the consumer community.
