any tips on improving my ping? i tried disabling nagles algorithm and everything, but my ping still remains around 200 fps. i live in new york so im pretty far from teh servers. anyone have any tips for me

I'm in NJ and have the same problem. I've tried literally everything, even when my router broke and i bought a better one, it didn't change. But 200ms isn't bad, i've just learned to play with that consistent ping.

How many people are sharing your network? I have 4 computers used by different people on the router i use. I'm pretty sure that a lot something to do with it, but there's nothing i can really do about that.

Serious, you can't do anything about it other than disable all other programs that connects to the internet; IMs, Virus scanners that peridically checks for new updates, ALL programs that checks for new updates automatically, etc...

if you're talking about FPS, than get a better video card and faster computer. A slow computer paired with the top of the line video card won't help much because your other computer components won't be able to handle GW and vice versa.

It's only as strong as the weakest link in the chain aka you're computer is only as fast as the slowest thing in your computer. Don't believe me? Hook up a very old and slow IDE hard drive to the top of the line computer system and watch how long it takes to start up Windows and any other programs.

Beyond turning anything off that consumes bandwidth on your internet connection there is nothing you can do. Your ISP and the place you are connecting to are responsible for routing traffic out to the other nodes and beyond your own ISP or destination, they can't do much unless they decide or have the ability to go through different routes.

Without at least a trace route we don't know where the problem is, but I can tell you on my network and my ISP's network I have ping under 15ms, once I leave my ISP network and start connecting to other nodes the ping jumps obviously, being in Eastern Canada and having to connect all the way to Texas makes the trip long, I get around 175ms+ once I hit Texas and the Ncsoft servers. Not to mention Ncsoft isn't really using GOOD data centers for hosting their game traffic to begin with.

200 fps would be quite insane

BTW. FPS = Frames Per Second. It has nothing to do with ping. This number says only how often your's screen refreshes action on the screen. Your's ping is a number below it in ms.

I consider myself lucky, normally my pings are in the 75-125 range. It takes about 10ms to get outside of my ISP's network. Almost all of the ping comes from LimeLight (the contractor hosting NCSoft's servers for Guild Wars) and there is nothing we can do about thier pings other than complain to ANet. We both know how well that works.

If you use Windows XP you could try the latency fix before you give up. It works with many online games.

If the 4 people are sucking lots of bandwidth up then this is the problem, do you know them/allow them to? If not then protect your wireless router, haha. Also, I live in South Jersey and my ping to the servers is perfect 99% of the time so this has to be an ISP and network bottleneck thing and not being far from the servers. I am also the only person on my home network out of two comps most of the time.

it is weird for me but i copied my gw folder onto a 4gb jumpdrive then i plug it into a usb2 input and my pings are amazingly better... when i run off my harddrive i usually get around 10 ping... sometimes i get up to 25 but never over....> off the jump drive i get 45's and 50's. my only guess for this is that the jump drive off a usb2 input has a faster read and write then my harddrive does. and i have a newer hardrive so i dont really understand why that would work like that but give it a shot and see if you have the same results as i do i know i'm happy with it.

INDEED sorry guys i'm speaking of fps... my ping is usually in the 200ms's unless i get one of those pretty anet lag spikes and then it can jump to my biggest so far has been 16k's.

You do realize that for ping the lower the number is the better right?

10ms is quicker than 45-50ms.

You sure thats not FPS? Hardware that dosen't touch your network on your end has nothing to with internet speed. The better read/write would simply allow your computer and guildwars to build polygons and textures from the GW dat faster than with your internal hard drive, which again dosen't make any sense to me but if it works good for you, do it.

But do remember guys, FPS (physical capability of output hardware [graphics, ram cpu]) and Ping (internet and internet speed) do not affect each other in any way.
