Problems with port 80 connecting
I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone else has any similar problems and can advise me since I've been trying to sort this for weeks and am at end of my tether.
I recently moved, and have had problems connecting to GW at my new place since moving in. I can login to my account, but I usually get stuck at the loading 100% screen and error 7 after a while. Any updates to the game client come through very slowly (2-3k/s). Normal web browsing/downloading is at normal speeds, and it seems GW updates are the only thing to download so slow.
I'm using the same PC as I did at my last place, so I know the problem isn't to do with my computer setup.... I also took my laptop to a friends house recently and GW worked fine there. 100% not a problem with my software firewall etc etc.
So I know that GW needs ports 80 and 6112 to work. My ISP control all port-forwarding remotely (i.e. I cannot login to my modem/router to do this myself - I have satellite internet here, so I cannot bypass the router/modem, and yes I know the ping is rubbish but I also know other people have played GW fine on satellite, and I can use vent etc. so thats not the issue here) so they have forwarded these ports for me. I have verified using port checkers that port 6112 is open, however I'm having issues getting traffic through on port 80.
I suspect the ISP is disallowing non-http traffic on this port or using packet inspecting which is either slowing or stopping the majority of data getting through to GW. I have been trying to talk to my ISP about this, but their customer support is terrible and they flat out deny using traffic shaping or management whenever I ask them.
So my question is, is there any way I can get round this issue? Use a proxy or tunnel to connect, or setup GW to operate on different ports? (Incidentally, does anyone know what the -port command does if you run it in the shortcut to GW?) I'm really at the limits of my know-how now, and any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
