Ok, I'll try to keep this short. I have a desktop computer and a laptop. I have gw on both of them. The PC is plugged in to the internet, the laptop is on wireless, both from the same modem. I can only run gw on my PC, not on my laptop. I searched the internet, did some tests, and it looks like the port 6112 is closed, that seems to be the problem. I called my internet provider and he said that if on PC is working then the port is opened so I should try to turn off the firewall. Did that, did not work. I also tried to add the port as an exception to the firewall (although it was kind of useless since if it's not working with the firewall turned off ...). I even uninstalled my antivirus and still nothing, the game( and installer) will not connect to Anet so it wont work. The thing is I played gw before on my laptop, with internet from the same modem ... and I can't figure out what caused this crap (sorry

). Can anyone give any suggestions?

Well, I have a similar setup. I run GW primarily on my desktop, but occasionally use my laptop (the laptop is not powerful, so I only do things like Inventory shuffle on it.) The desktop is wired, the laptop is wireless. I have never needed to open any ports with either one.
The only thing I can suggest is that you "reinstall" GW on the laptop. Simplest way would be to just copy the entire GW folder from the desktop to the laptop. (Uninstall the GW on the laptop first, perhaps.)

Another thing you could try, to narrow things down, would be to connect the laptop to the wired connection to see if the wireless is the problem.

Go 2 ur routers website (http://192.168.1.1./) Mine--Linksys) and under gaming/applications I think u can allow the GW's port i think i used 80-6112 Both types of connection.

Or if you don't have any special setup or password on the router, just find the reset button on it and hold it down for a few seconds.

thanks for the replies guys, I tried to wire the laptop but that didn't work too, it's so freakin strange and frustrating ... gonna try the reset thing

Since the desktop works wired, but the laptop doesn't, shouldn't that lead you to think that the laptop is the problem, not the router?

Your problem has nothing to do with your ISP or your router, it's something on the laptop, probably some dumb software firewall, Windows built-in or 3rd party.

You say GW won't run on the laptop... do you get some kind of error message?

Your router is definitely not the problem, neither is your ISP. The fact that it works fine on your desktop proves that already.

Try these two things:

1 - (Startup Items) Click START, then RUN. Type "msconfig" (without quotes) then hit enter. Click the STARTUP tab on the top. Either disable everything, or disable everything except anything having to do with your wireless (if you don't use Windows to manage wireless). Click APPLY then OK. It will ask you to restart... restart your laptop. A message will pop up when you get back to Windows basically letting you know that the startup items were changed. Check the box to not "show me this again" then click ok. Try running GW. If it runs now, there was something running that was blocking it. If you notice you're missing something after changing stuff here, go back to "msconfig" and start checking boxes one at a time and rebooting until you get it back. The object here is to have as FEW things as possible starting up. But also to find the culprit of your issues with GW.

2 - (hosts file entries) Check your "hosts" file. This is located in Windows/System32/drivers/etc/ (it has no extension. Open it in Notepad). First, see if there are any entries listed in there. This will amount to IP addresses and DNS names (i.e: 74.125.95.103 www.google.com). If you see entries in here (other than the example entries) make a copy of it inside the same folder, and name it "hosts-original" or something like that. Edit the one still named "hosts" from notepad. Remove all entries except the top section. This is all you should see in the hosts file:

Leave the "127.0.0.1 localhost" entry. Save the file, then reboot and try GW.

If GW still doesn't run after doing either of those, I'm sorry I couldn't offer more input. I'm willing to bet it's something in your startup though. A lot of people have so much crap loading at startup that is unnecessary, and don't even realize it. I doubt it's your hosts file, but it's possible. Do the first one first, see if that solves your problem.

well none of them worked ... I'm thinking to reinstall my windows ... should be about time anyway hehe unless anyone else has any other suggestions. Btw, yes, it is my laptop, since i brought another one home and that one worked
