Video Drivers...
Hihi
Im currently running on a:
XP 2002 Version
Service Pack 3
220Gb Hard-drive
1Gb Ram
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+
2.01Ghz
I have a problem when scrolling and moving programmes around when in small screens, its really jumpy, I had to do a system recovery using the disks i have been provided with due to a crash in which I have no idea to the cause.
So i sorted out all my networking and stuff today only to find this problem, I googled it to see that some people had the same problems and said I needed to update my video driver / Graphics card. Problem is im pretty much a Pc boob on that side of it. I have no clue what to do, alls i know is that theres a sticker on my pc that says Graphics By: nvidia.
sorry if ive been confusing or whatever, just thought someone may be able to help me
all comments and advice is much appreciated.
Ben

go to start-->run and type dxdiag. run it.
then go to the display tab, and it should tell you what graphics you are using.
once you found it, you can just search on the internet for the correct drivers.

i'm willing to bet that you have an integrated geforce 6100 series, given the age of your computer.
try this driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html
if this doesn't work, find your computer's user manual and go with whatever it says.

The video driver you are using is a build in generic windows driver. While trying to install a driver for an Nvidia card would be a good guess, that is what it is; a guess. Installing a driver on a guess is not exactly a good thing. I would advise checking device manager to find out what card you really have.
Click start, right click my computer and select properties. Go to the hardware tab then click on the Device Manager button. Next, click the plus sign to the left of Display Adapters, it should show you what card you have installed.

Sounds like your settings have gone after re-installing and so a low refreshrate.
desktop > properties > settings > advanced > monitor > 85 hz or how high that thing goes.
If not, I'll have to crawl back into my cave and meditate some more...

What usually happens when a computer is restored, your video driver is using the generic one. Basically, all it does is draw low-res colors on the screen. When you download the correct driver, it will allow your computer to use your graphics card to do the graphics stuff, instead of handing it off to the processor, or just using the graphics chip badly.
If your computer has a model number on it, please post it. We can look at the stats online, and probably track down the specific driver you need. I dont recomend installing a driver based on a guess, even if it is probably a good guess.

nvidia uses a "unified driver" system, meaning that every geforce/quattro ever made will run on the same set of drivers.
the 169.21 drivers is the last one i know of that runs very well on an older graphics chip. at least, since it ran on my fx5500, it should run on an 6100 integrated.

Yes, almost any Nvidia based card will run it. IF that is what he actually has. It is more likely that IF it is an integrated graphics it is ATI or Intel. Right now, we have no clue what card he is really using.

he mentioned it has a "graphics by nvidia" sticker, which probably means nvidia integrated. in that case, that driver will work.

I am glad that the 169 series worked for you.
Moriz: How many people do you know the integrated video cards that actually use them? Of the people I know that buy pre-built systems, most take the thing in and get the video upgraded and never think of it again. I have even had customers tell me that they have not installed anything, only to find a fairly new video card in the slot once I opened the case to check. That is why I wanted to be sure about which video card he was using.

he mentioned that his tower has a "graphics by nvidia" sticker. that's the clue i used to suggest the 169.21 drivers from nvidia.
nvidia drivers will work on any geforce or quattro graphics solution, whether it's discrete or integrated. unfortunately, these drivers won't work on intel GMAs.
