Default some internet connection problems.

Alright I've had an ok connection but it's been getting worse and worse. It's almost to the point where I can't SF farm or play pvp. Here are some facts.

My Wii, AND computer have both been having some problems with their connections. Also we have moved several times with different internet providers so it has nothing to do with them. Therefore I have concluded that the problem does not reside within my computer or it's wireless card. I figure it HAS to be a problem with the router.

See I receive an internet connection through my parents router. If it was a wired connection it would probably be more solid but we can't be running wires through the walls right now... or ever >_> No one else is leaching off of us since I set up a password and I'm the only one who accesses the wireless connection. It is a Linksys router roughly 4-5 years old running 24/7

Now the EXACT errors I have has just gotten worse recently. I lost connection totally but reseted the router and got it back. However now on guild wars, ever 2 seconds everything stops moving for a second or so, then goes back to normal like a little lag spike. Also internet pages are taking quit a while longer to connect, while playing the Wii it also disconnects sometimes during gameplay, or slowing down extremely frustrating other players.

So If I can give any more info about my problem please ask and make sure you tell me how to get it if its tech info lol. I THINK I need a new router, so if that IS the case, can someone direct me to a reliable wireless router thats cheap?

If you have the CD that came with your router originally I suggest re-installing it on your entire network. If you follow the directions it is quite simple.

Now before you do that, go ahead and call your ISP - I had the same type of problems 2-3 years back and it was actually on my ISP's end... they had screwed something up and never fixed it, until I spent 45 min on the phone with them. lol It's worth a call anyways.

You can get good wireless routers for $30 or so if you don't need huge coverage or lot's of bells and whistles.
