Hi,

I have been experiencing this problem for months now, and only yesterday did i discover that it may be an overheating issue.

I have installed all available drivers, testing RAM, HDD,Stability tests, Stress tests and i am still crashing when i play 1 game, GuildWars. I even tried running XP on a different partition and i was still crashing in the game.

When i crash, the sound loops for 3-4 seconds, and then the screen goes black, leaving me the only option but to reboot.

Yesterday, i discovered using the program SpeedFan that my GPU is 77 degrees Celcius when running no programs at all. When i play Guildwars, it rises to near 100 degrees, and crashes soon after.

I'm not sure how to change Fan speeds etc, or even if i should do that, or maybe these Temps are normal for a nVidia 8200 card.

This computer is 3 months old , a AMD Phenom 8450 triple core processor, 2.10 GHz, 3 GB RAM, and 32 Bit vista home premium.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on my situation,

NTUNE will enable you to change fan speeds - it will either have been installed already on your PC or you can download it grom NVIDIAs website.

77 degrees when not under load is high, quite high.... you shouldn't have temps much higher than that while playing games etc.

last time i checked, the geforce 8200 is an integrated chip. it's very likely that it doesn't have any cooling other than a heatsink. given that it looks like your system is a pre-built computer, lack of proper cooling is even more likely.

I have sent over 20 emails to NCsoft and they have been quite helpful, with the other various tests, and they should get back to me tomorrow on this overheating issue, as they dont work weekends.

Also, for the 1st month or so of having this computer, guildwars ran very smoothly with no problems.

Now, i will be lucky to get 5 mins without it freezing.

So, should i DL Ntune and tweak the fan speed ( if the GPU has a fan)

nvidea gfore 8200 is a very poor card if i where you i would buy a 8800gt or hd3870 (or a 295GTX or HD4870 but theyre realy expensive)

Hi,

If this card has been working fine for nearly 2 months, then i would prefer not to buy a completely new GPU, and rather fix the one i have.

If the intel 128mb card i had previously was able to run Gw for 2 years with no problem, then surely a 256 nVdia card can do better than 1 month...

So, if i DL nTune will this help at all?

I doubt it will with an integrated chip, might look into some Case fans though.
Proper ventilation will get you far and fans are fairly cheap.

Well, buying and inputing fans into the computer, will involve opening the case and breaking the warranty, which i don't want to do.

I might as well try Ntune i think, worth a try....

Ok - I installed nTune - created a shortcut, double-clicked on it, and it restarts my computer.

Ok, so i assumed it needed to maybe restart as it was just installed, so i reboot and double-click it again, and my comp restarts .

Any help please guys?

if i remember correctly, you access ntune through your nvidia control panel... or it did when i used it last.

it could be simply your integrated graphics is failing, in which case you should return the computer and ask them to replace it. since it is still under warranty, this should be fairly easy to do. as far as i know, the geforce 8200 integrated chip does not run that hot. something's borked, and it's much easier to get it replaced.

Hi,

Now, its not just nTune that causes my Comp to restart, it's when trying to access the nVidia Control Panel, or nVidia PhysX....

Not to mention that the card is at 80 degrees celcius all the time now..

Well, as i only bought it a few months ago i am still under the years warranty, so i better find my receipt lol

Any tips on what i should do now,

replacing it is my suggestion. something about that chip is broken, because it shouldn't have that kind of temperatures.

heck, as far as i can tell, the 8200 is merely an integrated, lower power/weaker derivative of the 8400M GS i have in my laptop. my laptop's graphic chip never goes above 60C. let's not even get into the fact that it's a laptop, and should have poorer cooling than a desktop.

If it's under warranty then I would have the manufacturer take care of it for you. Either that open your case up and install a new graphics card yourself. Whichever you are more comfortable with.
