Well thanks to the help of people i now need to look for a new heatsink+fan. (since i have the intel stock heatsink and fan and its failing on me)

iv looked at alot of sites on reviews but cannot seem to find one. As far as I understand I would need one with a good size fan, with copper, with some of these pipe tech to spread the heat... I just have one demand. I have a black Aluminus case that has a side air duct that goes into the insde to take the heat out for the CPU fan.(so it doesnt travel in the case) I need a heatsink and fan that travels to the side of the case and not downwards or to the PSU.

My settup is the following...

Asus PN5-D mobo
Intel Core Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 GHz SOCKET TYPE 775
OCZ 600w PSU
4 gigs Patriot Ram
250gb HD
Geforce 8500gt

Also as I understand, almost all Heatsinks+Fans come with adaptor clips to fit alot of socket types. In my case theres a special tray to slide out for the mobo to be easly put in, I sorta got troubles even with the Factory sent fan to use those Push N' Lock pegs. Its so hard to push them in sometimes im scared im gonna break my mobo because I see it bending so hard.

The three previously suggested are all good.

Also the Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme (Black) is one of the best.

Can someone tell me the specifics of buying one.

Questions:

1. Does the bigger fan (120mm) mean better cooling? What if its a small (72,75,80mm)?

2. What does it mean bearing type? Does it matter any way?

3. What does airflow (CFM) mean for heatsinks+fans?

hey,

1: bigger fan means more cold air hitting the heatsink = better heat disperse. laos if you you going to buy a tower heat sink u will want fan that will almost cover the entire surface of the heatsink so 120 mm will do the job. as a side note antoher 120 mm does add up some more watt usage).

2. no idea. :/

3. by my understanding some heat sinks can work with out a fan. if your tower if big enough and you have enough fans on the case you can do with out. but with the fan you will still get better results at the end.

the tower is huge, so you need to make sure it fit your case.
u can put the fan at any side you want basically (there are 2 clips that comes to clip the fan to the tower).

it does not do a job like the Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme, on ther other hand it is also lots cheaper then the 120 extreme.

im using a dual core 8400, my temp with stock was 36 on idle and close to 55-60 sometimes over when playing. my temp atm are 32 on idle... but i never pass the 37 on load. overall very happy with that buy.

1. bigger fans means it can move more air. but more importantly, it means it can move the same amount of air as a smaller fan, but running slower. this means it will be quieter.

2. bearings stand for ball bearings, which are usually small balls located within rotating parts. being balls, they allow a tight fit between different moving parts while eliminating wear and tear. always a good idea to get fans with ball bearings, because they tend to last a lot longer and are quieter.

3. airflow is just the amount of air it can move. higher the airflow, the better job of cooling it will do.

Not 100% sure what you meant by this, but the CFM rating on a fan is how many Cubic Feet per Minute of air it can move - so bigger is better.

Funny thing - I don't think I've seen anyone use the metric equivalent (either Litres/sec or cubic metres/sec) - sorry, wandered o/t again

alright, so what type of ball bearing is the best? Theres these different types and i dont know which one to choose from. 2 ball, E&R, Fluid Dynamic, Magnetic Barometric, MFDB, rifle, sleeve and SSO. Which one to choose

I dont my equiptment is good enough already to be running high specs, its just the heatsink and fan thats doing bad.

Speaking of experience and having the exact same motherboard as you, the Zalman Cooler is a pita to install. There is only one way to install the mount for the heatsink, and even that is hard due to the massive northbridge heatsink. If that doesn't bother you, you'll have a great CPU cooler which should do alot better than the stock cooler.

I don't know about the V8, but I heard good reviews about it. With 8 heatpipes it better be good. Both are excellent, although I'd probably choose the V8. I'd also choose a full copper Zalman fan (infact I have one) instead of that one (copper is a better heat conductor than aluminium, but it's a lot heavier). Also, the Zalman cooler came lapped (mine is, not sure about that one) which is nice too.
