Default Intel Graphics Card?

I ran a system requirements test on my laptop for all of the campaigns. It passed for Prophecies but failed the other three. The laptop has a Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family graphics card, and while the test says it is not acceptable all of the sub-tests indicate otherwise.

Features: Recommended attributes of your Video Card
Required You Have
Video RAM 64 MB 1.3 GB
3D Yes Yes
Hardware T&L Yes Yes
Pixel Shader version 2.0 4.0
Vertex Shader version 2.0 4.0

So it says the card won't work, yet lists everything about it as above the recommended specs. Every other hardware requirement was exceeded.

Is it worth trying to put guild wars on this computer, or should I just save myself some time?

Intel Integrated Graphics have problems with some of the graphics features used in some parts of Guild Wars. There was a sticky about tweaks you could use to get better performance in GW, but I don't see it now.

Basically, you can run GW on that laptop, but be prepared for low frame rates, graphics glitches, and, in some cases, graphic failures (crashing when you try to enter Rata Sum, for example).

You can maybe try -dx8 -noshaders command lines to help it run smoother, thought it won't look very good maybe.

intel's GMA4500 can handle GW pretty easily. you shouldn't have much trouble outside of "swimming" terrain textures and no antialiasing support.

Outside of Rata Sum, perhaps other areas of EoTN and Wehan Terraces in NF it ought to run GW, however running it "well" is another story. Just about any "dedicated" graphics will perform better than any of the Intel integrated line.

i'm not gonna lie guys, i've actually tried GW on a GMA X4500. it actually performed on par with a geforce 8400M GS. it handled GW at "high" settings, 1440x900 resolution, and managed 30 fps in outposts and 40-60 in combat situations. it can also handle rata sum and wehhan terraces easily.

Thank you very much! I have already gotten my characters past Wehan Terraces and I can wait to get into those parts of EoTN. I have a powerhouse computer at home that can take me through those parts.

Are there any other areas I should be concerned about entering?

if you can enter wehhan terraces, you should be fine for any GW area.

I've run GW on a old school GMA950 laptop and had no problems as well, lol.

actually, GW uses CPU and GPU equally, though it does not particularly stress either on a modern system. it usually does become completely CPU bound on powerful systems though, simply because the GPU is likely going to be much faster than the CPU in most cases.

Well this IS true... Textures and shadows are handeled by the GPU, and while guildwars looks great, I don't think the textures are very straining on cards, neither are the shadows in GW because the only shadows in GW are ones cast by your character, the enviro-shadows are all fake, yes...they are fake, hahahha. (They are simply darkened 50% opaque textures laid on the ground stationary) Brilliant though... thats how this game can run so well on older hardware. Think of it as an Illusion.
