Texmodding Chaos Gloves?
*Please Close Other Threads*
I'm trying to make my Chaos Gloves 'black', and since no dye can do that, i was thinking of texmod...
Got any tips for a "Iknowwhattexmodisandhowitworksish" guy, to make em look blackish?
Sorry if in wrong forum

@Eragon
When you edit, you are getting rid of the alpha channel in the image, which is why you should be editing it as a .dss. The alpha channel affects transparency, which is why your armor looks so shiny.

Start up texmod
Go into loging mode
Enter explorable area
Press +/- till you find the texture of your gloves
Save it
Edit it
Change the white with colored glow to black
<then save it as same name and load this in regular texmod mode>
Last step im not 100% sure on...

@eragon: I managed the alpha-channel with *.bmp and gimp. it looks a bit too much transparent when you open it, but with some tricks you can get the picture looking normal without loosing the alpha channel, see this post:

@kajusbonus:
I guess (because i don't own a pair of these) chaos gloves are a bit more complicated than the normal armors because they have
1. additional textures for the glow around them with transparency (maybe similar to chaos axe? I once saw one where you could see the edges of the glow-textures)
2. a light-emitting surface (not sure how that works out)
since you can't have black-colored light (since black is defined as the absence of light) it might not work at all, or if the textures are just white you might be able to get black areas where the light should be.
i might borrow a chaos axe and try that once... after reinstalling gw and textmod and gimp

I'd just like to point out that viewing the chaos gloves on lowest possible settings on every possible setting shows that the glow on the outside of the gloves is nothing more than a small box/set of boxes that are extremely transparent with multiple layers of the dyed colour.

1. I'm not sure why your method doesn't lead to the same results as Eragon got, but it's definitely not correct. .bmp simply does not contain additional alpha data.
2. For the last several releases, GIMP has included .dds support out of the box. You don't even need the plugin anymore. There is absolutely no reason not to do it right and work in .dds format. Just download the newest version of GIMP.

And that's why I've stayed away from this thread. I'm sure the glow mesh is going to introduce complications that I'd have to see for myself to find a workaround.

well, as long as I save the .bmp as a 32 bit file and don't open it with any programs other than gimp, I get an alpha channel.
but its cool that .dds is supported, ill try that out the next chance i get. (assuming the + from NmLk works with textmod )
@iTwilight: thanks, I didn't know that. maybe the chaos axe with only 2 glow-textures is easier to modify

It all seems kind of pointless since you'd be the only one to see the blackened gloves anyway.

That's the only person that needs to see it though is yourself. Who cares about trying to look cool in front of other people on the internet lol.
