Well, I got my 95% on Cantha with GIMP but I had to look really carefully because the resulution wasn't right :P.
|
comparing with screens from someone who already had 100% or just by looking at the picture?
i don't have a clue how can you tell, in gimp or not, where you have unexplored area without comparing your map with another. i mean, some places are obvious, but small chunks can sum up to 2% or more and sometimes the texture on the map is so crappy/monochromatic/dark/whatever that you simply can't say if it's explorable or not with a naked eye or zoom from gimp.

Yup I used photoshop. There used to be (maybe there still is) a post with maps that were 100% uncovered. You had an option of which resolution to use. When I did it, I had to time the clouds on my map to line up with the clouds on the 100% map, once I got them lined up I just created 1 pic with 2 layers, the layers were my pic & the 100% pic. Id then switch between the 2 layers & watch for little changes in the fog on the map. I did Cantha last, imho it was the hardest of the 3, Jade Quarry & FA werent that popular back then. There was another post for people wanting to Carto those 2 competitive arens hehe

When I did it there were no texmods or 100% maps ( a couple claimed to be full maps but were probably less than 95%), So it really was a case of wall hugging every zone carefully, multiple times.
And yes, Jade Quarry was a deserted pain, but apart from that, Cantha was by far the easiest.

Ahem - I think we may possibly be straying from the topic of AV false positive problems here...

I too had the texmod flagged as a Trojan using McAfee. But according to this forum it seems that the program is still safe. (Provided it was DL'd from guild wikki official website). So I'm going to assume it's safe.
Thanks for the helpful posts!

False positives are a pain in the ass. The anti-malware apps are doing their job by tagging stuff that exhibits malware-like behaviour, but it leaves us with the situation where we pretty much have to trust stuff based on word-of-mouth.
Annoying.

I'll have to re-download seems how I wiped clean all the "infected" files. Additionally, which site is recommended? Rapidshare or megaupload. (Both are on official wikki) but I'm curious if anyone has better experience compared to the other.

The problem is with McAfee, not TexMod. All other anti-virus programs I have tried have no problem with TexMod. If McAfee keeps deleting TexMod, then create a new folder for it, then go to the McAfee settings, and put the path for that folder in the "What not to scan" list. Then download and save TexMod in that folder only.
It worked for me.

Ok cool,
But all the wiki links are safe right..?
I might sound like a paranoid kid but still...

The official wiki links are safe, TexMod is safe, and the .tpf files linked on the wiki are safe. A number of users patrol the page(s), but check the history to be safe. If the last edit happens to be from an anonymous IP, make sure the links were not altered.
lol at TexMod "cheating."

Point 1: How can i see that history...? Just check the last time the page is updated?
Point 2: Yea i know it's cheating but i'm happy if you got an alternative way...

At the top of every article on the wiki are a few tabs. Click the history tab, and you'll see a list of edits. I just checked, and someone cleaned up a vandal on that page on March 17. I presume the links are fine.
I think you misunderstood. I think it's funny that people consider TexMod cheating. I do not. TexMod with the cartography mods does the same thing as GIMP or PS image flipping, but it's faster and easier because it works in real time. That is not the topic of this thread, however.

Plus, the program was never made for GW nor has it been updated since early 2006, so there is no reason to be worried about something stealing a GW account.
