Returning to GW with a 045...
Been a while since I last logged on, however with the Ascalon Ball coming up I thought I'd get back into it for old times sake.
When I tried logging on however my password wouldn't work. Tried a few times and kept failing, assumed I'd used some obscure password back then and forgotten it - Reset it via my NCsoft account and all was well.
Tried logging in with the new password, it took a while and then I was presented with this:
Obviously worrying, I've sent off my problem to support - But last time I was playing they didn't have the security question.
Just making sure that there isn't some sort of thing I was supposed to have done since then.
Last I knew 045 was a ban...
Cheers for any light you can shed on this.

You, like so many others, had your password changed by someone in china my good friend. Most likely any valuables you had are long gone. Support will unblock your account though since you sent in a ticket. Just keep checking your emails and wait it out.

Indeed, my buddy had this happen when he wanted to come back too. Got his account unlocked and nothing was there, not even the armor.. Needless to say he didn't come back...

sorry friend, looks like you were hacked - hopefully your characters and titles will be there waiting for you at least.

Got a reply from support - Indeed the case was that I was banned for gold selling. Implied hack then.
On the other hand I got my account restored and everything is still there. I don't have any money though... but thats my usual state of affairs so I prob left it that way ^^
Had me worried for a bit there but it seems like a lucky escape - cheers all.

Glad everything turned out good for you. Your gold WAS probably stolen, no doubt, but at least your characters weren't deleted. Shouldn't be too hard to farm the gold back, I made about 50k in a few days and I'm one of the most slowest people to farm ever, haha.

Not even hiding in the darkest caves could keep you from the huge hacking incidents and "i got hacked threads" that happened, where have you been?

er, I haven't been hacked myself, but lots of ppl have and some of them have lost their characters with a dozen or more maxed titles on them as well.... hundreds or thousands of hours of game play down the drain just like that. :/

I often wonder how it is that seemingly normal players who don't do anything "shady" manage to lose their stuff. I hear about it; but nobody that I actually know has had this happen to them.

You have a lot of faith that accounts are secure.

Myself and a some friends played GW together. Two of them managed to get their passwords "reset" by an unknown source but nothing seemingly bad happened to their accounts because they did NOTHING about it. The rest of us have never experienced that or a hack. I trust these guys and I KNOW that they weren't doing anything to compromise their accounts.
This leads me to the next quote:

I don't know what to believe nor do I have a LOT of experience in the situation, I will say that given the above scenario, those emails must have been fake phishing attempts at information. And the fact that my buddies didn't respond and their accounts were ok leads me to believe that this is how legit players fall. Some people might be the smartest of their kind but when something legit looking threatens their 5 year old accounts with the possibility of them being hacked and permanently damaged or destroyed, they might not spend those few seconds looking at the real link under the link that's been posted and follow through with the password change (giving info to the wrong people).
I'm not saying my opinions here are right and I'm also not saying they are wrong. But that is my 2 cents.
