HEy, i wanted to see if someone could help me out abit.
so i hooked up my Laptop computer to my LG 32' TV. works fine, but when i start Guild wars it just looses the signal and when iquit guild wars it comes back up. so does anyone know what the problem might be? thanx in advance.

what rez is that 32" 720 id imagine... set gw to that rez and try.

yep your running GW at a rez the TV can't cope with

try GW at 1366x768 or lower and see if it works for you

You should be running GW at the same rez as your laptop desktop. If you were, GW would work fine. My guess, like everyone else, is that you are, for some unknown reason, running GW at a rez the TV can't handle.
Simple solution, read the specs for your laptop, or right click on the desktop, and find out what the "native resolution" is for the laptop's display. Then set GW to the same resolution.
If that rez is higher than what you were using, and GW seems to lose fps, you can either lower the graphics settings in GW, or RTFM for the TV and find out what resolutions the TV is compatable with.

the resolution should default to the TV's settings. you say "loses signal"? do you mean the graphics go fuzzy, i'm pretty sure that's bad for the tv

(graphics chip for TV can't handle it?) set it to the resolution that appears as recommended or try different ones (a notice should appear from windows saying what the best resolution for your graphics device (in this case the tv) is. unless you're playing at the right res i wouldn't keep going on GW like that D:
dunno if that works? i used a hdmi cable for mine (cept the new TV doesn't know it's own resolution %D )

Ok, here's what i did since i hooked my notebook to play GW on a 32" LG HDTV and it worked fine. It required a bit of tweaking though, the method worked fine on a 42" panasonic viera as well.

I did this using a nVidia video card connected through HDMI.

If you are pluged in via the VGA output, the max resolution you will able to achieve is 1024x768 if you TV is anything like mine.

If you are plugged in using HDMI or DVI to HDMI, here's he steps i used.
1: Launched GW and set the resolution to 800x600 to avoid any resolutions compatibility issues when i plug it i the TV.
2: Plug in the computer, and checked in my video driver settings that it was set to a 720p output for my television.
3: Resized the desktop so it would fit the TV to the pixel, did it through the nVidia control panel. (ended up with 1186x678, it might be different for you).
4: Launched GW and set it to 1186x678.

Everything worked fine. The steps might differ a bit if you have an ATI video card.

Find out what the native resolution of your TV is. Check the technical specifications in your manual or online.

Configure your graphics driver as necessary to set this resolution.

Start Guild Wars in windowed mode(use the -windowed command), and change the graphics settings in GW to match your display's native resolution.

Yeah looks like you did what i said to do. Maybe I should have specified. LCD, plasma, or a even LED like the one I use, is just a monitor. Not much different than the one you use on your desktop or laptop. One of my computers runs 1920x1080 and anything I can do on that monitor I can do on true 1080 "tv" just by pluggin in the hdmi or dvi cable (without sound). The problem arises when the rez is different. Less is ok usually, but more won't usually work unless the big tv/monitor can scale it. I dunno about 720 which is what your TV probably has, but GW on 1920x1080 is not bad at all. I like it a lil taller, but it works.

Find the exact res of your TV/monitor and it should work fine if...
a)your video card supports that res (if not try riva tuner etc to tweak it)
b) you have the right equipment (hardware/cable)
c) Hz needs to be at what the TV/monitor needs or can take.

Plasmas and even LCD's can have some burn in issues. So I don't recommend you using your dads $4000 TV as your full time gaming monitor. But it's fun once in a while and people trip on how nice games and movies look off a pc.

Same goes for watching movies etc.

The next part that could cause problems is when it's not putting out sound thru the hdmi. This is becoming less of a problem, but some people can't get it to work initially. Fixing it depends on your hardware and drivers. Google is your friend. BUT if nothing works use a dvi or hdmi to the monitor and hook the stereo out to some decent computer speakers or your home theater.

That does depend upon the TV. My HTPC connects to my 46" Samsung using the VGA connection (at 1920x1080). It's connected that way because I couldn't get the HDMI to work without a border around the screen (and I haven't bothered to try to get the HDMI to work properly, since the VGA works)

Hence why i said if your TV is anything like mine, meaning that other TVs didn't necessarily cap at 1024x768 but that mine did.
