An issue with my new PC...
Hi all
about a week ago i got my new pc but i am having a little problem with this.
When i come back from afk, my screensaver is on and when i to to "unlock" it all i can see is my background picture, no programs or anything. I can move my mouse but i can't click or open anything, when i do ctrl alt del i get a black screen and the only way to leave it is escape. All seems to be working is to turn off my pc with power button but this doesn't sound good for my pc tbh.
A guildy suggested turnign screensaver off and i tried that but i can't find it (i'm new to windows 7). Anyone have any idea to solve it or where i can turn of my screensaver?
Thanks in advance
~Crazy

i dont use 7 - but im guessing if you right click desktop area and select properties you may get a windows with tab options and on xp it has screensaver options.
Failing that im sure screensaver would be under the settings area under config

I believe that Windows 7 is similar to Vista, so to disable your screensaver you want to Right-Click your desktop and the click "Personalize" from their you should see a sub-category that says screen saver. Click on that and a new window should appear letting you select your screen saver. At the top of the drop down list (None) should be an option, choose that hit "Apply" and then "Okay" and the screensaver should be disabled. Btw have you tried running a virus scan recently?

Done the screensaver now, i'll see if it works. And about the virus scan, i don't think i have any viruses as my computer is only a week old and the only websites i've been on are wiki, pvx, guru, gw2 and youtube.
Thx for help

Never assume no viruses - pvx has before set off my antivirus but only thru one of its ads but hasnt happened for a while. All the websites you said could easily infect you if they got infected themselves.
Always have a form of antivirus on your system and never assume - my pcs new so no viruses ( im sure people have got viruses from html infections etc within first week or 2 and found out when its too late ) .
Best to play safe my friend - get antivirus an regular scans.

If you don't have an anti-virus yet, i suggest microsoft security essentials or avast 5!, they're both free and do a decent job. I'd do a scan to be on the safe side, one of the first thing to do when you get a new computer is to get it's protection up and running.
Maybe some bloatware installed on your PC is causing a conflict with the screensaver. Anyways, you could try to google the issue, if anyone else has experienced this they might have a fix.

Sounds like explorer.exe has crashed
If it happens again:
Do a CTRL + ALT +DEL
Go into task manager
Under Applications you can click New task
type: explorer.exe and click OK
Not sure it looks exactly the same on Win7 !
If that method works, you can try to reinstall Internet Explorer 8
*sry missed the part where you said you didnt get any menu when pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL
