GW:EN-Related Problem: Display Driver Stopped Responding
I hope I do this right! I'd like to note that I have never experienced any graphical problem in my time playing Guild Wars. That includes having finished every campaign and gaining ranks in the gladiator and luxon allegiance tracks. However, when I try to speak to Skjaldur Lightfingers (sp?) in the first part of GW:EN, when her dialogue prompt comes up, everything locks up. I can move my cursor, but everything ceases to move and the system won't respond. Then everything blows up! I get a high pitched feedback whine and I get kicked to a rather nasty error (attached). I'd assume this is an issue between my graphics chip / drivers and something involving that blasted Norn, because it is absolutely reproduceable, I've never had any problems with Guild Wars before this, and I've yet to have any other problems with any part of the preview event.
I attached a DxDiag file with only the Display Devices and System Information.
EDIT: Gurrah. Nevermind that; I can reproduce the problem with the Norn, but I just got the same error in the Eye of the North itself. That brings my preview weekend to a screeching halt. :\
Thanks in advance!

Same thing happened to me. I had a crash at the Into the North cinematic and I lost my primary GWEN quest, but I got the Asura Gate. When I zoned out of the Boreal Station I had a second crash and the same message Sun Fired Blank posted with the driver display. After I re-logged in GW my resolution was at a minimum and was unchangeable. My Intel 82915G/GV/910GL default display adapters are up-to-date and I used -image to download the latest updates before the crashes occurred.

Same thing happened to me when I went into the portal at and later when talking to that same Norn. :/
I need the exact steps on what to do on that -image thing you were talking about. I'm a non-techie so a visual guide would help me or the exact thing to copy paste. Any help appreciated.

I experienced several exactly same crashes with the same message. Drivers are up to date and i even installed Directx 10. To no avail. It appears to be random: one duriing a cinematic, one talking to npc norn, one in EOTN itself, one when i was fighting frozen elementals, and my last happened just after i travelled to Ring ofo fire to get away from GWEN content.
I do hope that the last crash was just because I left GW: EN, if this occurs again in usual areas....*shudder* Seems it is update related.
EDIT: Shai Lee, -image thing is a command added to gww.exe file
It downloads all data and then clloses the client. You wont be downloaoding data ingame afterwards in loading screens.
Just go to the path where gw.exe file is and write gw.exe -image.
I did it pre-event and still have this problem.

I'm having total system lockups also, no matter what chapter/area. Leaving town=lockup. Looks like the patches broke Intel graphics compatability again....

btw: i dont think it is graphics card issue really, i swapped out nvidia card for ati card and it still happens.

I got the same problem, when going out of the Boreal station. i could just walk a few steps before everything crashing down. I just can't play :'(
I'm using
Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family
and never had problems with it on guild Wars (also finished 3 campaigns and playing hard mode).

I did that -image thing and it proceeded to d/l 45,000 files...so I was like...'ok'...and went to sleep. I wake up and it appears to be done downloading because that window that tells me so is gone. I then click on the GW shortcut icon and the window briefly pops up that it's 'Connecting to ArenaNet'. Sometimes it says 0% and sometimes it says 100%, but either way the window disappears and nothing loads. One time another window even showed that it can't open because another copy is already running. :S I can only assume it's from periodically clicking on the icon to see if it will load the game yet, but to no avail. I've tried restarting my pc multiple times as well...
So much for the beginning of my 'sneak peek' weekend, more like I'll have to sneak a peek at other people's screenshots of this weekend if this isn't resolved in some way for me. And that pretty much defeats the purpose...
This is what I get for loving to play a game but having zero techie skills whatsoever when things go wrong and being naive that things should work when I click on the pretty icon. :P
[Add/Edit]: Ok, I went back and removed the -image thing and now my game loads...to see if it still freezes/crashes during gameplay like cutscenes is another matter..

Hmmm must be a widespread problem. Happened/s to me also. All drivers are up to date, and I've never had a problem before.
Can't get past the log-in screen as of now Hope this gets resolved before most of the sneak-peaks gone

this might be happening because of the lag. the lag is way too high and the files are way too long for the graphics card and the memory to keep up with and they end up overloading, then crashing. just a theory.

hmm, seems the problem might be stemmed from the integrated graphics... more specifically, the 910/915 series. this is strange, since intel GMA had always ran GW just fine before. maybe the more demanding graphics of GW:EN is overloading it.
