Default Will I be able to run GW2 with this laptop?

Hi all,

Could anyone tell me if I could run GW 2?

http://www.laptopshop.be/product/134...1v-azerty.html

(scroll all the way down for info)

I don't mind running it on the lowest graphics. Also I play without sound if that makes a difference

I just like to play with 30-40 FPS

I could buy more RAM if possible. (If that would improve anything)

I'd say - yes, and it should run fairly well.

Ok thank you!

Anyone wants to give a second opinion?

Would greatly appreciate it!

GW2 is being developed on older graphic cards to ensure that older computers can play it. This laptop with an i5 chipset and good graphics will have no problem. If I were buying it, I would up the RAM to at least 4GB.

First of all. Specs for GW2 are unknown. Therefore, we cannot accuratly tell you if any pc/laptop will run GW2 smoothly or not. All we can do is guess, based on some vague descriptions Anet gave a long time ago. It would really suck for you if you invest alot of money into a laptop and later it turns out it won't be able to run GW2.

Secondly, I dont know what you're planning on doing with that laptop untill GW2 comes out. BUT! If it's not anything special, like other mid/high end games, why not just wait? It could be months before GW2 releases and by then, you can get an even better laptop at the same price.

my 2 cents

Yes I understand the specs of GW2 are still unknown. I was hoping for someone with a bit of experience of graphic cards and such to tell me if I at least could run it with a fair amount of FPS.

Buying another laptop is not an option since this one is 3 months old and costed 600EUR~. Considering the fact that I'm still a student.

@ Darcy: Thank you for your response. Would that make a lot of difference? FPS wise? I Have 3GB RAM atm and the website says there are 2 memory slots available so I can buy another 2GB (23EUR) or 4GB (33EUR).

I recommend posting on Guild Wars 2 forums - my guess is this thread will be closed for that reason. I'll give you general advice on asking about running a game that isn't released yet:
  • You already have the computer, so wait until GW2's system reqirements (at least) are released before buying anything. Even at release time, there's nothing wrong with downloading a trial (assuming there will be one) to try it out.
  • Sound on / off hasn't made a difference in game performance for a while, excluding of course bugs in sound drivers or the game's sound pipeline
  • Check out some benchmarks of your card at NotebookCheck.com. Your laptop packs a recent but low-end graphics chip. The Radeon 6000 is the most recent at the time of this post, but anything lower than 6500 is a low-end card in AMD's books.
  • In general, games don't use more than 2 GB of RAM so they don't run into the 2 GB "barrier" Windows sets for [EDIT: 32-bit applications] and crash. Only real-time strategy games and games that your laptop currently doesn't have a chance at running (e.g. Crysis 2 on high presets) use enough RAM to merit an upgrade from 3 GB. Just don't have a web browser with 30+ tabs open while you game

I misunderstood your OP. I didn't realize you already owned the laptop. In that case, you can wait to see if you need anymore RAM before shelling out the money.

As late as 2010 interviews, ANet was saying that the requirements would be higher than for GW, but not excessive. I would say they are keeping them low to widen their customer base, just as they did with GW.

How are you doing running GW with this laptop? If you can run it without turning everything down, then you should at least be able to run GW2 at low settings. There is no way of predicting your FPS until the game is installed.

If I take this list as a basis for comparison, your card is a few ranks higher than the one in my laptop (8600M GT). I bought it four years ago and it can still handle most games, though the most recent ones have to run at low graphics settings. My guess is that my laptop will be able to run GW2 without problem, probably medium'ish, but I hope GW2's development will take long enough so I can finish my year abroad and get back home and play it on my desktop!

*ducks for cover*
