Users of AntiVir PersonalEdition or other antivirus and seeing video/audio problems
This is the only piece of software that causes weird video/audio problems while I play GW. When I turn it off while playing, no problems ever.
Just right-click the AntiVir Guard icon in the system tray, and uncheck the Activate AntiVir Guard. I just put the check back after playing GW to activate it.
I would think other antivirus software may cause similar problems, and would have similar procedures. In any other games, AntiVir causes no problems. Hope it helps some out there.

RipperRoo, your description seems similar to the problems I've been having: first the sound disappears and white blocks appear around the cursor, and after this I eventually get an empty BSOD. Are these also the same errors you had Rogie? I'm indeed running Antivir Personal Edition, I'll try deactivating it and see if it helps.

Hmmm...I'll have to test shutting this off. If it solves anything, maybe I'll just go for AVG instead. I've had infrequent random crashes and a problem where certain sounds drop out over time (fixed by alt-tabbing out then back in)

i used to use Antivir
But it slowed down my pc too much - and i thought was rubbish
AVG - much faster (and is the same thing)

AntiVir has a higher detection rate than AVG, so it is not the same thing, but AVG realtime protection is indeed faster if you can live with the lower detection rate.
But this thread isn't about what antivirus is better than what, etc. Just trying to help others that may be having a similar problem, no matter what antivirus they are using.

if you dont want to use AntiVir or AVG (i dont really like AVG), try Avast! www.avast.com
its free like the others, has a better detection rate than AVG, looks better than the others, supports 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, and has no known issues with Guild Wars as far as i know (i run it all the time).

It appears that Antivir was the problem. Thank you very very much!
I'll take a look at Avast aswell actually.
Thanks again.
