What hapeened?
To answer some questions before they come:
Its a PCI card
I put it in right
I didnt install my software yet (for the card)
I took it out and it works fine (obviously.)

Did you have onboard graphics before? If so, go into your BIOS and check that the original onboard graphics have been disabled.
If that's not the case, can you boot into Safe Mode with the new card installed? If you can then try to install the drivers in Safe Mode.

Not.
I went to BIOS (not very familiar territory btw) and I found my "Main Video" something. It said onboard or PCI... It was already on pci. I said eh and saved it and tried again but it didnt work again.
huh? am i missing how to do this?

the fact that you get a cursor but nothing else indicates the card is recognised and working.
you say it is a pci card? which slot is it in and how many other pci cards do you have in the computer? you may be getting an IRQ conflict. ideally the card should be in the first pci slot ie the one next to the agp slot (or top one if you dont have agp)
also please list your system specs as it could also be a power problem. if possible tell us the specs of your power supply. these will be on a label on the side of the power supply.

List the rest of your System Specs and what PCI card your running (including your PSU - Power Supply), and what colour slot do you have the card in.
ALSO, make sure your monitor plug is not in the normal plug, and it's connected to the back of your GRAPHICS CARD.
So make sure, the MONITOR PLUG is in the GRAPHICS CARD back.

Unless he is running a system that has a ISA slot there is no chance he put it in an incorrect slot. The PCI and AGP slots are spaced differently from the edge of the mobo.
1. Make sure you attached the monitor cable to the newly installed card and not the onboard video.
2. The option you were refering to in the BIOS is just the option to boot from PCI or Onboard. There still should be an option to disbale the onboard all together.
3. Try the video card in a different PCI slot on your board.
4. Post your results here

might be a jumper on your motherboard to disable the onboard

I have to admit that I missed that on my Sisters PC when she upgraded to a stand-alone graphics card! It was only after about half an hour of looking around and checking things that I finally clicked in.
Why is it you always miss the most basic things?

Because we always think it is something more than something as simple as it really is.
