All your game information is stored on Anet's servers. Just reinstall the client and sign in with your existing account and it'll all be there.

installing on new computer sucks
Actually, reinstalling GW is a real pain in the arse if you are reinstalling from the cds and you bought this back in April (like I did). There have been so many updates over the months that every time you enter a new area you'll have to sit around for a couple minutes waiting on massive downloads from the server.

You won't have to start over. He means that you'll have to download maps. (Since the maps are downloaded onto your computer, not your account.) But other than that you'll have all your items and characters.

I'm glad the data is not stored on your own pc, otherwise there were a lot of hacks and cheats for gw.

Not really, that varies on your internet connection, I re-formatted about a week ago, re-installed Guild Wars of the CD, I'm running a 1MB Connection, now there are MANY with better than this, and everything downloaded quite quickly, took around 20-30 seconds for Lion's Arch, Tombs, Ascalon (each) christmasy locations to load. And any others took around 10-15 seconds.
On another note, yes, all your information, accounts, etc is all stored Server-Side with ArenaNet/NCSoft (creators of Guild Wars). Otherwise, many hacks, cheats etc would be in Guild Wars right now.
So yeah, just re-install Guild Wars on your new computer, install it of the CD, then you can just login as normal like you used to do with your previous computer.

a side note
All the players replying are right. Just go ahead and install from the cds and log onto your account. Just be sure to remove guild wars from the other computer or get a new cd key for it.(to prevent areananet from thinking you are farming for money.)
Play Fair have fun

You don't need to uninstall GW from your old computer! You can install GW on 500 computers if you want to. The EULA doesn't prohibit installation on more than one computer. I have ONE copy of GW installed on all 3 of my computer at home. You can only use your account on one computer at a time, anyway. Of course, when a friend comes over he can use his account while I'm using mine.

Actually, the only things that you lose [that I know of] are screenshots, and your saved builds. Since these are saved onto your computer's Hard Drive...which wasn't fun for me since I had a lot of saved builds on my old computer and we got a new one a few months ago, and I still haven't recovered them all. But I'm sure you can save the files that have your builds onto a CD since they're saved into a folder on the hard drive.

You lose nothing, except screenshots and templates, but just burn'm on a cd or something and put them back in the correct folder.( you can do this with your entire gw folder, no need to install it then ).
-image is also faster in downloading than on-the-fly. (personal experience )
And don't listen to MegaMouse.

No problem at all, like everywhere else in this topic, GW only needs an account to play, you don't even need installation discs since you can download the installer right away from http://guildwars.com. Just dont forget your email
