When I played with my friends in the World Preview Event, many of them were turned off by the district system, claiming, "It's not really MMO. Just the same map stacked 60 times."
I do not dispute that it is MMO, but rather I would like to know if the district system is the same. This will be a large help. Also, it's obvious that your character changes when you equip new armor/clothing, but does your weapon change to the new item you equip? Thank you for your answers. |

Truth be told it really isn't a TRUE MMO... in the traditional sense at least. Picture Diablo 2 but rather than battle.net chat rooms, you have interactive towns and cities and outposts... When you and your party enter a mission, they are the only ones in the area, it's instanced so you can't be interrupted or joined by anyone.
In my opinion, I'm glad it's not a TRUE MMO (in the traditional sense, again)... It's a good game that is definitly worth a try... there's very little risk or commitment involved as there are no monthly fees. EDIT: And yes, your weapons do change when you equip different ones.

That answers my item question, but the discrict system is still a mystery to me.
I know that mission are instanced, but when you go to a town, or a mission starting area to form a party, is it simply one large map for everyone to use, or are there numerous 'districts' of the same map that you can switch between? |

It's numerous districts of the same map. My guess is it's an over crowding issue. As more people fill up a district, the others spill over into a new one and so on....most likely to aleviate lagfests It's not that big of a deal if you ask me. And as for instanced missions....yeah I like that idea alot. This is definatly going to be a fun LAN game on weekends

Plus, we can play with people from across the Big Pond! I'm really tired of companies forcing people from other continents to play on different servers. With GW, I can finally play a game with all of my friends.

I honestly don't see how you could say GW is the same map instanced 60 times when in Everquest every screenshot looks like it was taken in the same spot. From my personal experience I understand you have to play Guild Wars with a good party for a few missions in order to understand how great the game is. |

That's right. Playing the missions with a group really shows you what's great about Guild Wars. As the for instanced things, it is a great boon, particularly for traders, who will be able to move between the districts and find a constantly changing customer base.

My only real issue with the multiple districts in towns were that groups would be broken up and scattered across them when entering one, but that seems to have been resolved now. And weren't they saying something, once, about having you automatically enter the same instance as guildmates and people on your friend list? Has that been done yet?

that with the advent of your own home base or should I say guild could solve most of the issues. But reasonably it's quite a feat and frankly I don't think that their team could add this on their plate right now.
