DoT Mesmers: What's the key? / others... - Guild Wars Forums

This kinda pokes at the strategy guide that comes with the pre-order box [which I think seems to be quite useful]

DoT Mesmer: In layman's terms, slow down the enemy so they can't catch you, then pile on the degeneration while running away like a sissy!

I've compiled [but not played/tested] a mesmer necromancer build to do exactly that. Question is, is it that effective for pvp as well as pve? I've never come across one of these mesmers in any of the betas before, ever... I'm talking since last year's halloween beta, that's when I jumped on GW ^_^

Also, the other builds listed in that strategy guide. Though by now, I'm sure that guide needs a major update since "silence" isn't really a status effect [replaced by daze]

How useful do you think that strategy guide is?

I honestly hope it's not TOO useful...otherwise us Europeans would have a little disadvantage since we can't get the guide and the other stuff in this pre-order-box....Amazon just sent me a key over eMail >_> quite sad...

That depends. Are you level 10 or lower? Then it's useful assuming you don't end up with a teammate trying to do the same thing. After level 10 or so, DoTs start to suck rapidly. By the time you're level 20 and ready to play in tombs, DoTs are a joke.

My original Fiona Morrigan build was a DoT Me/Ne with Conjure Phantasm, Phantom Pain, Faintheartedness, etc. It's actually fun at lower levels, but you'll want to use your refund points and switch builds before getting to Lion's Arch. It'll get you to Kryta but that's about it...

Ranger

All primaries

the 2ndaries are iffy at best but now I know that dot mesmers aren't too hot come late game.
