Name filtering
OK there have been a lot of complaints/suggestions about the problem of people having names like Suks Ur Bawlz, GaNgStA rApPa, etc... so here is a thread to post suggestions. (do NOT post complaints or names you've seen please)
OK I'll make the first suggestion, I think there should be an option to turn off the names floating above peoples names, so that you cant see how dumb their name is. |

My suggestion would be to find out the IP addresses of those individuals, find out their home addresses, and flog them on a case-to-case basis. But that's just me

How about an option in the Friends options to remove a name from the screen? Or a command that removes the name in the chat mode?

From what I recall you have that option just as long as you don't put your cursor over that person then their name won't appear. As for the chat I kinda never pay attention due to spam (hehe the name spam cracks me up all the time) but thats the type of community you get when its focused mainly on all bases of people.

Suggestion
Number one, have some sort of filter for the capitalization.
JeReMy JaMeS would not pass cORy COrriSON would not either This stuff is really annoying and I can think of no defence for the use of it except for names that are Irish for example. McGreggory Swordblade Hunter McCormick But the unnecessary use of the shift key should be stopped. I would like to see some way to maintain that every name is a real word, but names often aren't and I don't think there will be a hand sorting of names. Or M'thrar Zn'nain. Ok, that's kind of a goofy example, but it does typify the kind of "fanatsy" name a lot of people like to use when seriously role playing. I figure, at best this is an either/or propsition, like the level cap or the way the world maps are designed. The idea is to fix a (quite serious) problem, but in so doing prevent people who don't cause such problems to be punished as well. You can either have the original problem, or live within the restictions of the second one.
Me, I like having one name names. Coming up with a surname for many of the ones I've used in the past is a pain in the patuckus, mostly 'cause they don't fit. Dave III |

well wow's a good example for this..
my friend had a name that had profanity in it, his char was either deleted or had to change the name (i forget) and he had a 3 day ban.. something like that would be great. |

Q: Will Character naming be reviewed? I saw a guy named SodaCan McPepsi earlier.
A: SodaCan McPepsi will not be filtered ??? we don???t want to be police ??? if its offensive, yes, but if it is just out of character, no. that was from an interview from one of the guildwars developers |

I still say we just go to their houses and flog them, but just reporting them to Arena.net is a viable alternative, one which wouldn't require nearly as much money as travelling the country beating people. Floggings always get the point across though

If we can do Roman numerals like that, I'll have to make a character called William III of Orange, since he's the guy whose name I've been using, and the coolest of the Williams (of Orange).
I will ponder that as well. |

Isn't there some kind of name limit though? (i.e. I don't think I could be William I the Silent of Orange) I'm not sure about that limit and how roman numerals would be restricted. |

Secondly, I believe there is a character limit set to a maximum of 19 right now, but I'm not certain on that. |
