Question Honest opinions please

I bought two copies of the pre-order and made it into 3 of the weekend events over the last .... long time. Never seemed to be around during the first weekend of each month. We spent most of our time doing the same thing each event. I really don't have a grasp for how this game is playing out. If there are any veterans of the following games, can you give a fair comparison between the two? Shadowbane, Asheron's Call (Darktide), Lineage II, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies. I just wasn't able to get much play in during beta, thanks.

I played DT on AC for a fairly good time. I haven't tried GW just yet, So I can only speculate.

DT in PvP Could be fun, but A LOT, and I mean A LOT of the time trying to get levels you get ganked by a high level, or groups of people. It gets very frustrating and boring. The skill involved in PvPing was moderate, but you didn't have to be really good. The main factor in winning a PvP match is Level, Equipment being second, and Skill being third.

Now PvP in GW sounds like it does require a lot more skill over uber weaponry/armory and Level. Since most people are level 20, What would it matter? So skill would be more of a primary factor, with attribute/skill setup being second, Level as third (As long as you are at least within 2 levels of your opponents) and equipment being last..

i wouldnt ask for peoples honest opinions, because after all most opinions are honest

back to the topic, i use to play EQ back in the day. it wasent for very long thoe, it just lost its hold on me quickly.

GW on the other hand has had me enthralled, and its still in beta.

probably not as helpfull as others will be, but its the best i got

to compare GW's to any of the games mentioned above would be an insult to GW's, its the most uniqure MMORPG ive ever seen, if you can even call it that... i havent had much play in PvP but from what i have done/heard its very based on skill and not level/weapon/armor, and PvE is awsome compared to the others, yuo dont lose any equip/exp/gold or anything of the sort when you die in PvE or PvP, just get a DP (death penalty) which is 15% per death, with a max of 60%, and this only lowers your max health/energy, and can be taken down with gaining xp, and or jsut returning to a town or outpost will get rid of it completely, this is good when hunting solo, or just exploreing, but kinda sux in missions and PvP, but thats where the player skills come into play, if youre good enough, you wont die, or have a team that can rez yuo fast enough ect ect ect, in this game its all based on skills of yourself, skills of your teammates, and skill's of your enemies, wether they be monsters or other players, hope this answers all of your questions

ive heard this view point alot and i just dont agree with it. everything has something that it can be compaired to. yes this is game head and shoulders above other games in its gener, but the only reason we can say that is that we compair it to those other games.

what i meant in saying that is because everyone is so used to the pay to play games, and in those games everything just becxomes about the next level, and to reach the cap of 60 i WoW, or 70+ in EQ and 126? in asherons call, ect ect, also the same thing wit thhe uber weapons/armor, in PvP if you have the higher elvel, the better weapon, and the higher armor, yuo will always win, but thats just not so in GW, and everyones so used to dieing being such a ho-rrible thing that when people die in EQ they actually have shot themsleves IRL bvecause they lost "everything". im just trying to state that you wont haveta worry about this kinda thing happening in GW thats all. and thats what makes it so different from the rest, not just the no pay to play aspect, the fact that you dont have to spend 50+ hours a week to stay competitive, and therefore yes i can say do not compare it to the other MMORPG's out there, cause they all basically copy eachopther, while gw's took the road less traveled, and did a better job of it.

JMO though, and everyones entitled to one

All of the MMORPGS you listed have the following gameplay:

1. Kill lots of little things. Get slightly better gear. Level.
2. Kill lots of somewhat bigger things. Get slightly better gear. Level.

Rinse/repeat for 50-70 levels for 2 months to 6 years, depending on the gamemaker and level curve.

Power and accomplishment in classic MMORPGS is largely a factor of how much time you spent in the game, and whether you belong to a guild that has enough people of the right level, and properly equipped, to get the biggest end game carrots.

This ain't that.

This is a game where you will be exploring some very cool places with people who are the same level and have as good a set of gear as you, and competing in player versus player with people who are the same level and have as good a set of gear as you. Your power will be a function of the choices you make, the tactics you use, the cohesion of your team, and your individual skill. Pumping 400 hours in will not make you a supreme being.

So if you are a "no pain no gain" kind of player, you may not like this game. If you are someone who thinks games should be fun, not work, you will probably have found a new home!

GW is more like Diablo 2 without all the crap stuff like Cow/Baal runs, unfair PvP, PKing, item/level grinding, total lack of balance, repairing weapons, potions, etc... It plays like a mix of RPG and FPS. Reminds me of NoX in some aspects.

There's just no game like GW. It's unique.
Though, I did dare to compare it to WoW...

My guess is you can insert any MMO instead of WoW and it'd apply.

I played Lineage 2 for a while, and both it and GW have their own strengths and weaknesses. I would pick Lineage 2 over Guild Wars if it wasn't for all the...erm...corruption in the game regarding item farming and IGE. I had a ton of fun playing L2 at first, but eventually all the scumbags ruined the game and I stopped playing. Guild Wars uses a lot of different meathods to stop that kind of stuff, and it greatly improves the gameplay. Besides the castle sieges Lineage 2 also has a greater PvE focus than Guild Wars, mostly because of the need to level. The one thing I really liked about L2 was that it was pretty RP friendly, and while others may say otherwise I feel that Guild Wars just isn't that good of a game for people looking for a solid RP environment.

Anyways, that's my two cents.

granted there isnt a RP server, but if you can find a RP guild (wich i am shure will pop up) then the people you will be talking to in-game will make for good RP conversation.

Since I don't believe in pay-to-play (monthly fee) games, only played the freebies I could find. Conqueronline and Runescape. Clearly this game is way beyond either of them. Conqueronline is a PVP kingdom. Only place you can't kill another player is the market because players set up shops there. The game doesn't mind you having two accounts and farming anything you want. Runescape is just Runescape! hahaha

I find it very good to see people trying to compare guildwars with the "high calibre monthly fee games." Tells me that it's within their quality range for the price of far inferior products. Many moulds broken by GuildWars. May we be an ever expanding lot so the game shall bring the pay to play industry to it's knees! hehehe

Default My opinon it's great!!

If your wanting to know my opinion it looks about one of the best damn MMORPG's yet..

Sure WoW has good graphics but it has it's ups and downs

1.WoW can get very competitive
2.PvP is pretty much Rock Paper Scissors
3.WoW is becoming worse due to the dev. skrewing it up

I have not yet played the BWT for Guildwars I am hoping to this Fri.

But from all I have read and seen of the Screenshots and Clips
I would rate these 5 games as stated

Guildwars - 11
Worlds Of Warcraft - 8
Anarchy Online - 7
Everquest 2 - 8
EVE:Online - 6

It also helps the fact that Guildwars is Non-Subscriptional
