why the trading system is such a let down?
Hi,
I participated to my first BWE in march, and while I enjoyed most of it, I found it very 'disturbing' that no proper trading system has been put in place, just one month before the retail date. The economic aspect of guildwars interests me as well as many players. Trading materials, weapons, misc stuff etc is an important activity in Guildwars - and I enjoy playing that part in any mmorpg- so proper tools needs to be available for traders. Many mmorpgs lack the quality of guildwars, yet they have better and more user friendly trade system than a spamming channel: personal shops, auction houses, etc. It is really annoying to me, that after so much beta time, that part of the game has been neglected by the developers (at the expense of other nitty picky minor changes). Maybe the beta testers didnt stress that enough? in any case, if the game goes retail with current non-existent trade system, i'm sure it will displease me as well as many newcomers. I hope guildwar developers will correct this asap. |

I think he is trying to say "Do not worry, all will be fine. Sorry I cannot tell you the secrets right now."

It's also important to keep in mind that the game is still in beta right now and Anet has been going above and beyond our expectations with each new BWE. Like bgnome said, it's something they've been working on and has talked about and I don't think they're going to disappoint.

ok i understand you can't tell details..but will we have the oppurtinity to beta test the changes and post feedback, or we're left with a "it is like that, like it or not" feeling due to retail date coming?

See.. saying "Yes, you'll have the opportunity to test this" or "No, you won't" would also be a violation of the NDA. Even though someone isn't giving details, they're still indirectly acknowledging things.
So, allow me to answer this question by quoting Gaile, (taken from Fansite Friday #35): Quote:

and even if it isnt in place on the retail there is still a bit of time to make sure it is right before streaming it into the game as most people will take a while to gather enough goods to make it useful

Myself I found the whole spamming thing rather appealing. It was like walking into a renaissance period village (In the hollywood/conan history as we know it ). The vendors, who really are anyone who just got this or that from whatever they are doing living off the land, shouting out their wares. It was an element of realism that brings the surreal fantasy world to life for me. If I want privacy or a less noisy discussion, I'd invite that person to a team, and we would talk, might even go out the kyrta province gate--Something a person would have done in the physical reality of a town or village where people are shouting out their wares as they do in some Eurpoean villages still.
But like I said that's just me. IMHO, they shouldn't waste their time on it. Oddly this analog spam dialogue might achieve some sort of farm bot disruption. It is alot of text to respond to, so the conversational side of that bot would be responding to everything so fast it would seem like it had turrets syndrome! And it wouldn't be doing its farming task all too efficiently. Last edited by Sin; Apr 11, 2005 at 04:46 PM // 16:46.. |
