Is there anyone else out there like me?
I could spend weeks just in Pre-sear Ascalon area exploring, trading, learning how to manoever, changing characters and starting over to compare. (Actually I kinda like to start all over again gaining a bit more insight each time)
When I finally enter the academy I will probably take my time as well. I don't know much about different armor and weapons and which is best for my character. I just want to take my time and enjoy the game. I also am disabled and can not sit in this chair for too long at a time and have to keep getting up and moving around or take care of household mundane things. I was wondering if there were any others like me to add to my Buddy list. |

Same goes with Half-Life 2, and any good game.

I would say most people go at their own pace - that pace just usually happens to be trying to get to lvl 20 as fast as they possibly can. However, with the way GW is, I think we will see less of that. You don't gain any terrible advantage at a higher level, like in many other RPGs. Items are great, but are much less signifigant and aren't needed to have a good time. For me, I like to take my time completing things, and mixing in a little bit a role play. In march, I spent many times departing from Piken Square trying to make it to Grendich. I would even go back to Ascalon and offer my service as a guide to take people to Piken, only to get more people to come up to Grendich with me. I didn't have to go back to Ascalon, but it was fun. I learned the map more and more (along that one path of course) and was still surprised by things along the way. Once I finally made it to Grendich (we gave up fighting as just made a run for it) then I started the same thing there, though I managed to snag a party that I stayed with up into the mountains, so there was less going back. I think the majority of my 'rushing to complete the game' time will be spent filling the map, and aquiring skills and armor, as I'm sure would be the case for most people. It will be hard to avoid leveling up, so you don't really need to try all that hard for it. Just let the game take it's course, it's fast paced enough already.

Being able to relax and enjoy the game is one of the major things I'm looking forward to, once it's released. I plan to spend quite a bit of time in pre-searing Ascalon myself. I'm going to do every single available quest, get absolutely every item that I think I'll need, reach as high a level as possible, explore every inch of the map, and take my sweet time doing all of it. There will probably be a few people who think it's a bit weird that their guild leader is so far behind them, but I can live with that. Ever since E3, I've felt rushed while playing Guild Wars because of the time limit on the events. When those limits are no longer present, you can bet I'm going to allow myself to savor every single second.

Same here. I read on some site (I think it was this one) that you should try to stay in Pre-Sear for as long as you could. Because after entering the Academy, it would be all gone. I'm glad I waited for a long time, before I entered. I had a lot of fun, walking from Ascalon to the Abbey and run through the fields. So many beautiful things to look at and just so little time.

Right On!
I have to agree with all of you who have posted before me in this thread. It's easy to get the impression that I must be strange when I enjoy exploring every nook & cranny of the landscape, or want to complete every quest & mission before moving on to the next area, or to start over with new character combos frequently, but I think that there are MANY in GW that approach it just that way. My sons get exhasperated with me when we're adventuring together in the same party, and I'm always the one bringing up the rear, checking everything out along the way. I just laugh and try to point out some of the sights and points of interest their hurry-up style of play caused them to miss. GW is a HUGE game and I'd like to show my appreciation to the developers by enjoying as much of it as I can find. GW will be around for awhile, so there's really no need to hurry. I'll be better prepared for the advanced challenges ahead when I reach them.
I'm curious....how old are all of us here? I'm 51. If we're all a bit older than the norm, do you think that contributes to our "stop & smell the roses" approach to the game? Last edited by Marksmann; Apr 03, 2005 at 07:03 PM // 19:03.. |

For my first character, I will try to complete as many quests as possible (even the million pre-searing ones). This way I will have a good base of what to do for my other characters. I think its important to take your time on the quests in a game where leveling isn't a big deal. However, after my first character I will be rushing through just so I can get enough skill points and money to buy the skills needed for my PvP character...

I am 56
In Pre-sear Ascalon I love it when I come out of the city and the enemy is back again! I like to see all the trainers, use their skills temporarily while I do their quests, then relinquish the other skills when I return to the trainer of my chosen profession and commit. I will probably leave one character in Pre-sear but I really want to at least try all the different combinations to find which I am comfortable with. I am loving my Ranger/Monk and my Warrior/Monk a lot but don't want to feel I must get locked into only the Monk second profession. I don't feel I know how to play well enough to try a Mesmer or Elementalist yet. It just would be nice to have someone like me to play with. Gwen is not the greatest conversationalist. |

Bunny Master, I have a friend in Holland. Will the game be released there too at the end of the month?

I'm gonna be taking my time and seeing as much as I can as well. Occasionally I get the urge to level, but I really do enjoy the social/exploration aspect of games such as Guild Wars. By the way, I'm 20... and I don't think it's an age thing... I think it's just a state of mind.

I'm 21 and of a similar opinion as you too. I plan to spend a lot of time exploring.
MY favourite game is Morrowind, and I have spent countless hours wandering around in that and not worrying about my level at all. With the way the world looks in Guild Wars I can imagine I'm going to be spending a lot of time sight-seeing here too. |

The pre-sear Ascalon was the best area in any game I have played as of yet. I beat every quest, spent a whole BWE there, explored it all, and I sure as hell had fun.
