I understand highly salvageable? But what does it mean when an item says precious after identifing it?

I believe it means it is worth a lot of gold. Sell it to an outfitter, if you can't use it.

Every 'Precious' weapon I've come across has been worth 50 gold regardless of stats... This is always more than some really nice damage weapons I've found that only sell for 20-30 gold.
