Why does everybody think it's like Diablo?
There's huge differences between them. For example: Diablo has hordes of weak monsters blindly coming after whatever they see, and you start clicking like mad until either of you drop dead. Also, there's a great difference between the skills system, in Diablo you just blast off your boosting skills before a battle, and keep using all your offensive skills, in GW you need to use strategy with your skills. The game is also different from WoW, since it has that kind of fighting where you keep waiting for 5 secs until you bash again or until you can use your skill, GW is a constant stream of attacks, i think it's all Action RPG's thrown together, and improved. You know what makews me want to play this game above AO, EQ2, WoW, FFXI. Is the plain and simple fact that I HAVE A LIFE.
I don't want to pay $15 a month then feel as though I have to get my monies worth otherwise I'm waisting my time. It's free to play though this is not revoluitionary, its a very good and attractive point that it has over EQ2, WoW, FFXI. It's also the point alot of people are buying the game for. I don't have the time to spend 5 hours anight on a game, I want to maybe spend 5 hours a week and some week no time on a game but I want to be able to come back to it whe I want and not feel the pressure on the bank balance. I can also play the game how I want and have fun with friends and a good happy comunity. When was the last time you saw a few hundred people in WoW haveing naked dance parties for hours in WoW. The sence of comunity is far better in GW. I played EQ2, and it was good I enjoyed it but I felt I was playing a single player game as veryfew people spoke to each other. at least in GW people do talk and say hi as they pass. I could go on for hours about this but I'm a casual gamer I like playing gamew when I have the time, and I like a game with some depth and sence of fun. GW has what I need and a good comunity to boot. Yes I have a life, and MMORPGs are good but not essential to my existance, like some people think they should be. |

Also, streaming happens in the background, once we don't have to stream the whole game, that is going to make a difference. Quote:

Since I follow many games, it always amuses me to go to a fansite for a game that I like and say:
1) this is a great game, 2) I'm planning on buying it, 3) I'm recommending it to my friends, 4) Can't wait for it to come out And then, since no game is perfect or even close to it, balance these statements with some honest observations about where it is less than it could be ideally. Also, note that nothing is ever improved by praise; only by critique. Same thing always happens: 38 fanboys jump on me and claim I'm flaming, being negative, hate the game, am an idiot, don't know what I'm talking about. That's cool, whatever turns you on. For those who replied with interesting and informative posts to mine: thanks. For the fanboys who can't see past their passions: have fun with GW and stay cool |

Quitting wow for guild wars..6 char types though?
Well ive played WoW for quite awhile, and i used to play Lineage 2. Both are quite fun, but the grind blows..i just wanna game i can play and have fun..i mean like i would have a good amount of time to play guild wars so that i wouldent be a total noob, but i dont want to haaave to play loads just to have fun. I was looking at the classes, and theres only 6..so like, i know some people compare this to diablo..is it going to be not much differance in characters at all? Just 6 differant types? because i dont think thats very cool..whats going to make One monk differant from another? I know this is probably a dumb question, but thanks for your answers anyway

6 for your primary and 6 for your secondary
depending how you build them a elementalist /monk can be totally different from another elementalist/monk depends on attributes and skills |

okay so whats the lasting apeal going to be like? will this game take loong to get to 20? and once you are 20, will it just kinda get boring? like..i just..it looks cool but i dont get the Overall point of it..is there a huge pvp enviroment? Lots of dueling? and like can you still do lotsa stuff to get new skills at lvl 20? And also will there be much player / player interaction, like trading and such?

Not dumb at all, lots of people have that issue until they learn more. The thing is you get a Primary class and a secondary class so the possibilities are almost endless, want to be a Pally? Then Warrior/Monk would be the way, Shadowknight? Warrior/Necro. So while it appears to have very few choices to start, it opens up more and more as you learn. And with the many many skills each class has you can mix and match all night long, and if you go Warrior/Monk and run into another Warrior/Monk, chances are you are completely different. Unlike most games where the only different in a class is the race you pick and the equipment you wear, here it's all about your selected skills.

20 is only a mimor level limit. Once you hit 20, you can no longer get mire energy, or health. But your character still grows. There are atleast 50 skills per preofession type, and each character has two professions, so thats atleast 100 skills to choose from. This is why each character is uniquely different.
Once you hit 20, there will still be hundreds of quests and missions to do. PvP is never ending, and new expansions will be bought our hlaf-yearly, and new stuff is constantly being streamed through. Its never ending |

From everything I've seen or read the game "starts at 20", meaning that you should get to 20 fairly quick but that's what most of the game is geared around. If ya like powerleveling and going into newbie zones and walking through everything, then GW isn't for you. If you like a constant challenge were it's your stratagy and skills instead of just being loaded with "uber" gear and such then you are going to love GW

from the GW site
there are 25 missions (non pvp) to start there are 60-70 explorable areas (non pvp, not small) to start with additional content to be added by streaming in fron GW Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. ,We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless. |

If you want to something similiar to leveling in other games, you still can get more skill points after hitting lv20 (it would take quite long for one to get all the skill points needed for both primary and 2ndary)

It is like Diablo 2 in the action adventure sence. I cant personaly compaire it to *any* FPS, it just doesnt make sence to me. WoW is NO D3. WoW is not near the caliber that people expect a D3 title to be. D2 was one of the best games EVER compairing GW to it is not an insult but a very big compliment. |

I know(that's why I explained it)... in his post he said he's never played the game before and that is why he's expressing his opinion about it. I ackowledge that an opinion from a non-user could be beneficial in its way. But there is a line you cross (especially when it comes to new users reading the forums) when you speak of things (professionally) and are completely off base. Besides, all he had to do is ask, not pretend he knew. If he got the information from some other source, then I apologize if it was a fansite.. if it wasn't.. then I guess the best wisdom is don't believe everything you read... but too often people do. The rest was just to prove the complete inability to have an argument over something so defined by perspective as uniqueness. It's futile. Lansing Kai Don |

More than 6 classes (will likely see this in future chapters) Other playable races (not trying to turn it into other games... just really like playing elves and I like the customization abilities that would come with it) New system for draws on PvP Quick keys for group saying like HELP! NEED HEALING! I've posted these and many more in other areas.. I apologize if I seemed like a fanboy jumping at you. I was primarily concerned with the streaming technology comment and trying to help you see that from some people's perspective... this game is unique.. and that every game is unique. Even if we don't agree with them. Lansing Kai Don P.S. And, if you ask the people who know me. Then you'd quickly see that I'm an avid fighter for everyones voicing their opinion(besides flaming or useless comments) and discussing it through to come to the best solution.. whether or not the mod's or other users like it. Maybe it's my engineering side Last edited by Lansing Kai Don; Apr 25, 2005 at 05:35 AM // 05:35.. |
