Any point in attempting Northlands?
So I'm a level 9 Monk still hanging around Old Ascalon (kind of like the guy who still lives with his parents at 30) and I've just taken my first trip over to the Northlands. I rescued the guy there, and then there were the Charr. The horrible, horrible Charr. Is it even worth it to try and take those mobs on? Has anybody managed to make a dent in them? Or should I just cut my losses and move out of the house?

I've heard of people clearing thata whole area.
I've faced Charr in post-searing now and I'm only level 8 so yeah, I think it might be worth a try. Only move out when you feel you want to. Enjoy pre-seared Ascalon while it lasts! |

While I don't admit to defeating the charr I do want to say how I searched that area in the beta event with another player. We basically just avoided the mobs. Unfortunately there was nowheree else to go, several parts were blocked off with invisible walls. It would be interesting to see if this was still present in the full game.

In the last beta weekend event, hubby and I cleared the whole northlands including the bosses. Went in as lv7 Ele/Mes and lvl 8 Ra/Mes and each gained a level before finishing. It's doable with teamwork and a lot of dying.....
Getting ready to try it with L9 Ra/Mes and Ele/Mo. Hopefully it will be easier this time. |

tried clearing yesterday with lvl 7 Me/Ne and a lvl 7 Wa/Ra.
pulled some groups back to the entrance where NPC monk helped. But there was no way for us to clear Bosses and we didn't find anything usefull (despite completing the quest and some exp. for killing chars ). But our death stats are quit up now. |

One of my guild members and I killed the first two char mobs that you encounter last night. We had some deaths each. Try luring them close to the res shrine and tag team them. When your team mate dies take over on the same char and repeat. It is worth it. We picked up a char bow that does 10-15 damage. My character is a warrior mesmer lvl 8, he is a warrior monk lvl 7. Otherwise. it was cool to just run around in there and see the stuff in the apocalypse movie after you go through the academy.

I completed the quests, and took out some named mobs on my own. It just takes alittle time is all, but definately doable solo.

You need a partner to enter the northlands. One to open the dorr, the other to enter (which brings the whole party) It is one of the two quests that are not soloable.

I would do Missions 1-3 maybe even 4 and then go back.
First, many of those quests are a shorter travel from the other mission points. second, more lvls is better damage/life/etc. |

You guys were right that it's doable. My Mo/Me just finished clearing out most of the Northlands with an excellent R/Me parter and his pet kitty Midnight. Took down all the bosses at the alter, too. We died quite a few times, but there's no DP so it's no biggie. Luring mobs back to the monk at the start sure helps. Too bad you can't post attachments... I took a load of screenies to celebrate the conquest Here's my tips for anyone wanting to attempt this area:
1.) Lure mobs back to the start. The monk there will help you make short work of them. 2.) At the alter, take out the lower level guards before dealing with the bosses. 3.) Bring a monk! You'll need lots of healing to make any headway. 4.) Best skill to have in the Northlands: Backfire. That'll shut those Charr Shaman right up. |

yeah if you wanna get some good stuff, find a partner and kill the charr, me and my partner can get all the way up to the bosses and kill them now with very little trouble, and we have found really good items over there for pre searing, you just gotta fight differently then normal, and expect to die sometimes, just send one character ahead, lure a group of em out and run for your life, then the other char ambushes one of the char when they get by themselves, i have found lots of magic stuff that has given me runes and magic weapon pieces from doing this
