Viability of Monks in PvP?
For someone who JUST left World of Warcraft and is considering buying Guild Wars...
I really, really like PvP. I find it far more interesting to face human opponents than computer-generated ones. I also like to heal. How viable are Monks in Guild Wars PvP? I'm strongly attracted to healing/support classes, but I'm not much help to a group if I'm immediately assist-trained by the entire opposing force and killed while all my allies are still at full health. In PvP "out in the field" in WoW, I had a better time staying alive due to a combination of a) bodyguards, b) running away a lot/maintaining distance from the enemy, c) town guards. Bottom line, though, I was a cloth wearer. Recently our only escape ability (fear) has been effectively removed from PvP play. I did organized arena-style 5v5 PvP as well, and once the other side figured out the absolute necessity of killing off the healer, I got assist-trained to death virtually every time, despite the best efforts of my own side. Even when my group won, I couldn't avoid dying. Is this a common experience for Monks as well, or do they -- like WoW paladins, say -- have better methods of staying alive long enough to actually heal? |

Monks are esential for PvP. And they are the first target in GW too, if you face an expirienced team, that's why most teams run with at least two monks.
I suggest that you look at the monk skills here. Monks have many options for healing themselves and healing others. And don't forget about your secondary class, there are many good combos. I play a monk in PvP a lot (Tombs mainly, I hate the random Arenas), and it's really fun |

yeah it is and pretty much always has been a tactic to go after soft targets first and healers being a number one priority. This actually becomes quite fun in most battles as it is interesting to see who can take them out first...
Fun tactics in this game also include if there are hidden healers (like warriors that have heals) or if other people have rez signets on their skill bar. That can be used at key moments to rez monks and swing the tide of a battle pretty quick especially as the second poster said, there are 2 monks who can be rezed and heal each other really quick. |
