Skill points - Guild Wars Forums

Hello everyone. I'm new to this game (like most of you) and I have a question about skills.

I am currently a level 6 warrior/necro and have 6 skill points. From my understanding, these are used to purchase new abilites. Whenever I ask a trainer where I can go to learn skills, they tell me to go to Warmaster Gran (I think thats his name), but when I do, he tells me to go see that Duke guy. So, I go see the duke, and he tells me to go back to the Warmaster! Is this because I can't learn any skills right now? I am very confused. Someone please set me straight.

Are you still in pre-searing? If so, that's why. As far as I know there is no skill trainer there, just skills you can get from quests.

Ah, ok. That makes sense. No, I haven't gone into the Searing part yet. Thank you very much for clearing that up. Also, what is the recommended level for Searing? I think I had the option to go a couple levels ago, but I've been trying to get a few more levels before I go.

I would be at least 5 or 6. The first time I jumped through at 4th and I regretted it. I've known some people to go until 10th lol which is about as far as you can get I think. Well, there are a ton of Charr in the Northlands, I suppose you might get another level killing them. That would suck though.
