I have no experience with Runes and so have asked the same questions as you. What I've been told is that you do, indeed, get runes from salvaging items. The odds of a rune showing up is very low with the regular salvage kit, but are much better with the advanced salvage kit, something on the order of one-in-four chance. Some have said it is good to use the identifier kit first, especially on rare & highly salvageable items, to see what might be there to salvage. Others may have more to tell you on this, since I'll have to wait until the next BWE to actually try this all out. Good Luck.

use an ID kit to unlock the rune...Use an expert salvage kit to acquire the rune....won't always get the rune..but the chance is much better with expert kit..
note: salvagable or highly salvagable armors Runes.. +1 = minor.... +2 = major /w -50health...+3 = superior /w -75 health they add to your attribute total...can only have runes tied to your primary class and can only have one of each attribute rune (the highest rune taking effect) only armor pieces...5 runes..5 pieces..one rune per piece. From what others have told me, and what I've gleaned from the other areas on hear that talk of the Runes, they're supposed to be some sort of "buff" that can be applied to the individual parts of your armor. They're supposedly not stackable, but can be replaced by "new & improved" runes that you can find.

sword = hilt and pommel axe = gript and haft hammer= grip and head staff = wrap and head i think heres the thing with runes when you id a blue/yellow or sometimes even white piece of armor that dropped it will say "certain rune unlocked" like a monk, or warrior ect. then you have to salvage it(highly recommened useing a expert salvage kit) with an expert you get something like a 25% shot at getting a rune, with a regular one its like 1-10% to get weapon upgrades same as above except its sometimes works better if there alot of high mods on the weapon or its highly valuable like 50-100+ gold in my expierience *edit* heres a link for the runes http://www.guildwarsguru.com/rune-listing-id29.php and heres a link to see what you get from a salvage http://www.gwonline.net/page.php?p=90 and yet another link to the weapons upgrades http://www.gwonline.net/page.php?p=125 hope you find this usefull Last edited by static deathbringer; Apr 06, 2005 at 07:37 AM // 07:37.. |

But what exactly does it mean to unlock a rune if you have to salvage the item to get the rune anyways.
What I mean is if the only way of getting a rune is by salvaging an item that has the rune in it what is the point of having it unlocked anyways. You can't make the rune somehow after that by yourself, can you? |

How easy is it to get the rune out of armor? Say i have armor from Yak's Bend and i want to add a rune to it. Later I get to Lion's Arch and I buy new armor, how easy is it to get that rune off the armor and into the new armor?
