Items drop off mobs you have killed. Armor drops are only for you to sell/salvage.
You need to buy a salvage kit from a merchant in order to do this. Usable items that come from mobs would be weapons and shields and a variety of off hand held bonus items (this includes icons and ankhs that add to your energy or other stats). throughout the game there are quests that will give you usable items. And collectors that will trade alot of different items for one certain type of drop (i.e. skale fins from a river skale mob will get you a belt pouch). you can also craft items and armor using the crafter NPC's. Also--all mob drops bneed to be picked up by dble clicking on them loaying on the ground. Gold will be split up automatically by the game--items will be listed as "reserved" for a certain random char in the group. No one but that character will be able to pick it up. |

If you're out by yourself, you get all the loot. However, I don't think its quite possible to solo once you start facing teh Charr. Generally, you'd need at least the healing NPC. The NPCs also get a share of the loot too. Any gold you get is distributed evenly, and items that they would get if they were a real player would just not show up (basically it'd seem like there's less drops when you have a lot of NPCs with you).

NPC stands for Non-Player Character. Basically a computer controlled char.
After you move on from the tutorial/pre searing the game will allow you to group up with 3 of them. they are called henchman--in the beginning you have your choice of a healer/elementalist/ranger/warrior. You can only have up to three of them--and no more than one of any type. these NPC's are treated jsut like actual player chars--meaning items/gold/exp are all shared between you and them. |

when adventuring in pre-searing Ascalon, you don't experience any penalty. Post-searing, you get a 15% death penalty--your max health and energy drop to 85% max levels. This happens every time you die, so if you die twice you're down by 30%, 3 times and you're down to 45%, etc.
All of this gets restored by returning to town, but going out to adventure again means the entire field is reset with all the monsters you just killed. So if you've got a long way to go, better off taking a monk with you to keep you healthy. Also, killing a hero monster (recognizable by the colored "glow" around them and the special name) gives you a 2% morale boost and increases your health and energy by 2% per hero creature killed. These guys are usually much harder to kill than your garden variety creep, but can be worth it in the long run. And, yes, the 2% bonus also stacks, so 2 hero creeps killed = 4% bonus and so on. |

Well, A warrior would be the best idea as a new player, as they have longer endurance from physical attacks, wich means easier hunting at first. Pick up everything a monster drops, and sell it. Regards, Ashleigh. |

Warrior Monk is the easiest to start with. High armor, lots of healing. I can tank about 5 Char solo with Monk evasion abilities / healing without breaking a sweat (level 8 Chars, I'm 11 or 12, can't remember). Watch out for those magic users... That life draining garbage is annoying as anything when your trying to kill that guy first and his defense line gets in your running space.

Mesmer tricks also work wonders. With a monk henchman I can solo in some of the tougher areas pretty easily. The best I've seen so far are Backfire (for casters) and Empathy (for melee). VERY useful, but tricky.
