Whereabouts are you? I'm at Noliani Academy and the best I have found is a wand that does 6-9.

At the beginning of the game, just pick the highest damage weapon you can find. (Melee, range, it doesn't matter.)
After a little bit, the higher damage stuff will have requirements on it, at which time you will need to start using some type of holy rod for your top damage weapon. So once you start seeing the "Req. 6 Holy Prayers" tags, you'll want to keep your eyes open for a good rod of some type. |

My monk uses a smiting rod light dmg: 8-14 (req 8 smiting) and +2 energy when health is above 50%...
I got it around Yak's Bend and haven't found anything better... |

I actually meant 'best' at the 'end' of the game, but thanks for the answers for the earlier parts.

I have an Orange text Holy rod that does 11-22 damage, and improves casting speed. It requires 12 points in Divine Favor, which I wasnt able to achieve until lvl 14. The base value is a rather exorbitant 388.
I bought this weapon the second day the game was released and have yet to come across any wand that comes close. Still searching for wand upgrades though - do those even exist ???? - Bill |

I believe that 11-22 is indeed the highest damage available for rods. Neither rods nor foci have any upgrade items right now.

So pretty much the best strategy is to just use the best rod you can find at all times. Either way, the majority of your damage would be coming from your Smiting. |
