Help: Quest does not complete when in party?! - Guild Wars Forums

I was doing the "Account of the Fallen" (I think that's the name) quest partied with my friend in post-searing Ascalon and the goal was to find this book in Old Ascalon. However when we found it there was only one copy (contrarily to Diablo 2 where there would be an equal number of copies as members of your party) so we thought maybe only one needs to pick it up and it'll get completed for both but when he returned it to the Scribe only his quest got completed. That sucked 'cause we had to do the quest all over again to get mine completed. Is there any way around this? One thing that I thought could have been the problem was that when I got the quest I was soloing but when he got his we were teamed up. Or maybe it has to be the leader of the party that returns the item? Anyone had this problem before? Obviously that's a problem only when you have to find an item but still that's a bit weird isn't it?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a way around this one. You just have to do the mission over again. Did you try having your friend drop the item or trade it with you just to see if it updated your mission?

The weird thing is that in pre-searing Ascalon there was a quest similar to that where you have to return a Chest to Devona so my friend picked it up first -that updated his quest, then he dropped it and I picked it and I returned it to Devona and it completed the quest for both of us. We tried the same thing with the "Account" one. I picked it - my quest got updated, dropped it, he picked it - his got updated but mine returned to initial state (that is, as if I've never found the book). I'm thinking it might be a bug but if anyone knows a solution let me know. Thanks
