Hasn't ArenaNet already stated several times that they will not, in ANY forseeable furture be increasing the level cap at all? There is simply no need for it. Sure, Level 20 is low - compared to other games... so what? Levels mean almost nothing in GW. Levels are used to give attribute points and added health points. That is all. You want more levels.. fine, they will just make the attributes and health you get per level less then what it is now - this way, anyone already at cap - doesnt have to spend more time out leveling to "reach the cap". That isnt what Guild Wars wants its players to do. They want you to enjoy the game.. not spend your time constantly leveling so that someone can sit back and proclaim how much better they are then someone else because they are level 90.

They just have to make missions 2k or 3k exp instead of 1k. It isn't hard and I think the cap should be increased, it will be another way to tell who has what in the game. Plus it would be another goal to reach. BTW, there is no need for it because well there is no need for it lol. No monsters to have higher lvls, no areas to need higher lvls. BUT expansions could break that need and they could develop stronger mobs and higher lvl areas to visit. |

History has shown with past MMOs that level cap increases are followed my mass exoduses. Levels are relative, the game is balanced, go play something else if you can't shake the preconceived notion that level means anything.

I pray that is all and mighty that they NEVER increase the level cap. This game is all about fun. No level cap increase = NO GRINDING like every other MMO out there. SAY NO TO LEVEL CAP INCREASE!

When getting a new character to 'competition' level is a matter of (at most) a few weeks, you have the opportunity to experiment with different classes and discover which one 'belongs' to you. Expand the level cap, and you reduce your variability. Longer and longer to get to the point where you can be competitive...stuck with one character grinding to level (30, 40, 50). And the casual player can kiss any hope of competing, or ever catching up to the boys who bought the game in week 1 goodbye. Just like every other MMO. Bad design, no thank you. |

Thanks for the insult, don't think I was insulting you, but hey...
Anyway, if his sources are right there might be in increase, so be prepared. If not, oh well. Last edited by The IOU; May 10, 2005 at 04:00 PM // 16:00.. |

If there is, it's tally ho off to another game for me (where the devs stick to their guns and don't cave in to the pressure of mediocrity).

I have played way WAY more then 20 to 30 hours and am not even level 16 yet so. So quite how are you supposed to get to level 20 in that time. I don't know. I don't care about the level cap one way or ther other really. I just hope the new expansions have loads of NEW places to explore and quests/missions to do. New loot is ALLWAYS good New professions would be nice too.

I still don't understand why people think the only way to make the game more challenging to high level players is to raise the level cap. There are several places in the game already that are ridiculous for anything but the most experienced team of acended characters with fully developed skill sets. There is absolutly no difference between a level 30 character trying to find a way to beat a level 45 one than a level 20 trying to beat a level 35 one, the latter scenario being present in the game already.
Higher difficultly is not achieved through higher numbers, only higher ratios. And high ratios can be achieved with with one side being held constant. Quote:

If you're 16, you've seen (maybe) 1/3rd of the world.
Hell, I hit 19 and had to go back over the early maps for cities I'd missed (several of the coop missions skip you right past cities with skill trainers, for instance). And some of the maps are amazing, just to gape at. |

A Net has never even hinted at increasing the level cap and the point is level does not mean anything if you want a greater challenge they could increase the mob levels and trust me i would increase the difficulty. What does it matter who has what in the game I would think you could take more pride in defeating an equal opponet than from flaunting some +100 sword of crappity crap that only somone who has bought 5 expansion packs could get. A Net has also gone out of there way whenever they have been asked in explaining why there will never be an increase to the cap. Funny how this rumor keeps popping up over and over just long enough for people to go research the archives and not being able to produce any evidence that ANet is even discussing the idea.

I just read through this entire thread and I really prefer them not to increase the level cap. but if they do I'm sure they will find acreative way around managing to do it. But in either case, what I could really go for in the expansions are new weapons like spears, lances etc. and new professions...that...would be sweet
