Am I missing something, or are Staves pointless? - Guild Wars Forums

I have yet to find a Staff (in 20 levels of play) that can equal a mainhand wand and an offhand focus item, each with bonus attributes. Are there vastly superior staves out there, or did they just flub the itemization?

As found, normally staves (there are a few exceptions) are not as good as wands+idols, BUT you can ADD things to them to make them better (like staff heads, for example)... unlike wands, where no upgrade exists.

I thought this as well. I still think it may be true but i did finally find a Staff that was better then any wand/offhand combo I had. I found a staff that was Gold rare and it added some nice stats (12 energy, 22 heakth, 19% +1 fire and 18-25 or something damage)

I have a wand/offhand combo that actually adds 30 health and 14 energy but it doesnt have as good of normal damage or +1 fire chance so the staff is in use right now.

In general though especially early on until you start finding rares the wand/offhand combo seems to be best 95% of the time.

Yeah. I was using a wand/idol combo until I found a nifty gold staff. Man I wish I was a Nec/Ele. Has cooldown bonuses for Fire and some other ability. then it had +22hp +9energy and +4 armor (physical). Unfortunately I screwed it up by adding something that gave it another +1 energy which killed the 22hp. Need to fix it at some point.

I haven't found one staff worth keeping yet =/

I found a gold staff once, but it was sooo bad I just sold it to the NPC.

I used to think the same thing, but I got some upgrade items for a staff and then picked up a yellow staff:

Energy +15
Light Damage: 10-19
Armor +4
Improves skill recharge protection prayers (17%)

And I've been using it ever since...
