Use the "search" feature up top to search for "runes hilts handles pomels hafts strings".
Basicaly you salvage weapons with upgrades you want using an expert salvage kit. You can then add those upgrades to weapons you have. Expert salvage kits can be purchased in Yaks Bend for 400g. You won't really see any salvagable upgrade weapons till Yaks Bend. So do the missions to get there. |

ok when you fiish a quest they give you items such as hammer of truth or something like that right? supposedly when you get these items with prefixes your suposed to use an expert salvage kit on the mand sometimes youll get hilts nd strings and pommels and stuff... im not for sure but thats what ive been hearing, because i am also looking for those items.

The game will tell you when you've found a rune. If you pick up a blue Butterfly Sword, and use an ID kit on it, it will become a Butterfly Sword of Enchanting (for example) and will bring up a little window showing 'Rune Unlocked... Enchantments last XX% longer with this rune... use an Expert Salvage Kit to recover Rune' or something like that.
This game will basically hold your hand through all these questions. If you haven't salvaged a rune from an item yet, it's simply because you haven't found an item with a rune in it. It's not like you're missing/neglecting anything. |

No weapons have runes. Runes are specific to armor ( found on salvagable mob armor.. example: Charr armor).
Runes add to your attributes ( or health) and can only be placed on armor. If you find a weapon upgrade the first time, then it does display an unlock message. however, if you find another, it wont display that. Basic weapons have certain names (of course). Take Spiked Axe for example. Spiked axes can have modifiers on them like +11% dmg while over 50% health without having any weapon upgrade. It will still be called "Spiked Axe." If you find a weapon with a prefix or suffix, then it has a weapon upgrade. Examples for spiked axe: Ebon Spiked Axe: Does earth dmg instead of physical. Spiked Axe of Fortidute: Adds ~20 health. Ebon Spiked Axe of Fortitude: does earth damage and adds ~20 health. The prefix is determined by the main weapon functional piece. Axe head, Staff head, bow string, etc. The Suffix is determined by what you hold. Staff wrappings, axe haft, sword hilt, bow grip, etc. You can only have 1 prefix type and 1 suffix type at once. Adding another replaces the current type. Meaning if you upgrade a spiked axe, it can only have one haft (handle) at a time. A double handled axe would be odd. |
