Sorry, newbaby question...I have a character in the first map.
I haven't encounter any mission, how can I start one?

I assume you are in Pre-searing Ascalon (all nice and green and pretty). The first mission is available after you leave this section. Once you have gone through the Academy and arrived in Seared Ascalon talk to Sir Tydus. He will give you a quest. There are a couple of intermediary steps but eventually you will have a quest marked Primary in green. The name of the quest is Defend the wall. It will lead you into the mission start area for the first mission.
NOTE: Missions and Quests are 2 different things.
