Signet of Capture
Can anyone please tell me where I can buy this. Ive checked the skill merchant in ascalon but he does not sell it.
Also once I buy it do I have to spend a skill point everytime to get a new signet of capture or can I just equip it on my skill bar everytime I go out. Thank you |

you get the first one from a quest in Lion's Arch, then after that several of the outposts, cities sell them, but only the ones after Lion's Arch.

The merchant at Yak's Bend sells them too. For 500 GP each.

Merchant at Yak's Bend might sell them AFTER you do the Lion's Arch quest, but not before!
My character is to Yak's Bend and I know there is NOT any SoC for sale!!! |

Once you use the Signet it is replaced by the skill that youve captured. You no longer have a Signet of Capture...not even in youre skill set. You must then get another Signet from the skill trader if you want to Capture another. Yes, it will ost another skill point (but you probably have more than enough) and the gold

In Lion's Arch, look for an NPC called Magi <something>. The quest is called Orrian Excavation, and the followup quest gives you the signet.

I have many questions about using the Signet of Capture.
1. To capture the skill, do you use the SoC after the boss has already used the skill? (I heard from a friend that you have to use the SoC during the time the boss is casting the skill, but it doesn't make sense for some skills with shorter cast times than 2 seconds.) 2. Does your SoC "disappear" if you used it on a boss who just used a skill that's unavailable to your professions? (For example, if you're a N/Mo trying to get Aura of the Lich from a boss, but he suddenly uses Mantra of Recovery, which is an elementalist skill, do you still lose your SoC?) 3. Do you get the elite skill if the boss uses a normal skill in-between when he used the elite skill and when you finished casting SoC? (For example, a boss just used Poison Arrow, and you begin casting SoC, but before you finish casting, he uses determined shot.) Also, would your SoC disappear? Thank you. |

Quarrel Falls has a skill trainer that gives SoC, and you don't have to do the Lion's Arch quest.
1.) Yes, just after the boss uses it. It says so in the skill's description. 2.) Uh...Dunno. I would assume it'd just be grayed out, but that's a guess. 3.) I don't think it's affected by any skills they use after. The only skill I've captured (was a non-elite) I captured by casting SoC a second or two after they used it, and while they were in the process of casting their next spell. Hope that helps. Maybe someone else will know #2. |

Thanks.
In retrospect, my questions 1 and 3 were really obvious and stupid, both mentioned in the skill's description. |

If you try to capture a skill you already know, having learned it before, or can't know, being from a different profession, you'll get an error message and the SoC will be ready for use again. It doesn't have a cooldown timer so it's just like what happens if you get interrupted using Flare or something else with a recharge of 0. It doesn't work and you can use it right again.
As for which skill it will capture - it will capture the last skill used by the boss whatever that is, whenever that is, normal or elite, defined by whatever they had just cast when you click the SoC button. You can wait a long time before using the SoC so long as the boss doesn't use another skill.

Can you buy & use signets of capture repeatedly, or is there a limited number?

And you can buy more then one at a time. I currently have 5 signets of capture to equip. Running back to merchants is annoying.

Can you capture skills from any creature friend or foe or does it have to be an enemy boss?

It has to be an enemy boss.
I've seen posts of frustrated people who find an elite skill on a group of baddies, but can't find any boss that has that skill. |

I am having a hard time telling the difference between a boss and a regular badie? Could someone post a couple of screen shots??

What *are* the different colors then? People keep talking about the colors but I do not know what each color represents.

From what I have seen, it looks like the colors are as follows:
Monk = Blue Mesmer = Purple Elementalist = Red Warrior = Yellow Necromancer = Green Ranger = Green...but they use spirits so they are easy to tell apart from Necromancers before the fight starts. If anyone knows for sure about these it would help if they could correct me where I am wrong Last edited by Tobyus; May 23, 2005 at 11:03 PM // 23:03.. |

I've seen green ones use necro and ranger skills, and purple ones use mesmer and monk skills. So i generally ignore the color and just wait and see what skills they're using.
