Click on the target, then Ctrl space.

or hold ctrl and doubleclick a target - You will then call it & attack it

I always do C + right alt + space, selects the closest target.. then calls the target and you can then attack it with space if you want.

It notifies your party that you're attacking a particular enemy, so it can be brought down more quickly. Some mobs require more than one person to kill, so it helps a lot. I found this to be an extremely helpful thread regarding the use of calling targets and autoassist.
