I am lost on this salvage thing
after reading many posts and using salvage kit, ordinary one,
1. Is there any hard and fast rule to save gold? as gold seems to be harder to come by 2. and common resources can they be used to make higher level resources 3. and is it better to use expert kits on everything? |

Using expert kits on regular salavge stuff only yeilds more. I.E. and standard bow yeilds 2 wood planks with a reg kit, and expert kit yeilds 6 wood planks.
In the case of Steel ignots as opposed to iron, yes you use other salavage to create steel ignots, although sometimes a "Highly Salvagble" Item may yield steel as well. |

I always use expert kits, but in the beginning an expert kit is a tad expensive (it can be later too). Also, I salvage everything, although if you check with the armor crafter you can get a basic idea of the materials you need.
armor drops (useless) => salvage => crafting material (maybe useful to you, maybe not, depends on class and quests)... |

What I like to do is sell anything that is white and I dont want to use. Otherwise if its blue purple or some gold ( depends if there is an upgrade component ) I use the expert salvage kit on it. This way I have lots of crafting material and lots of $$

I would NEVER sell material. There are much better ways to make money and you never know when you will need the material.

How is it you can unlock a rune but not be able to salvage it out? I've only gotten one rune out of like thirty, it sucks.

Yeah happens to me too. Just unlocks but no rune appears. Yes, an expert kit is used.

It "unlocks" for use on a custom PvP character. You then have a chance of being able to salvage it for use on a RP character.

I've had that happen too, but I seem to get the rune more often than not.

I got a superior Soul Reaping rune out of my first "unlocked" salvage item. I believe the item was a gold 'Ettin's Pauldrons', or something like that.

1)Basically, I like to isolate the types of materials I might need for my profession. I'll gather up to 30 - 50 of that type. Then I just sell everything. I don't bother to salvage (unless it's an item thats has a "very salvagable" rating, or whatever its called -- and salvage for special parts like Runes and weapon parts). Player buyers for crafting materials seems too inconsistent. You can't guarantee you'll have a buyer, and not only that, but a buyer at a good price. Picking up everything allows a constant flow of cash, and if the inventory gets full, I can tag on a few more crafting materials.
But essentially, I prolong the life of my packs, so I don't spend the 100/400 gold every other mission. 2)Yes. 3)In my opinion. No. I don't find myself scoring many rare components, but rather a lot of the usual stuff. Which is a waste for a 400 gold item. I save the expert kit for getting runes and weapon parts. I've gotten some purple armor charr drops in pre searing. One has something of swordsmanship in the name and the other has nothing other then just being purple. Im guessing it is in my best interest to hang onto these until post searing and use the expert kit on them? If I tried a salvage kit in pre sear and somehow got the rune, would I even be able to use it yet?
