trading accounts and currency thru ige
I have a few level 20 characters and i saw a ad for IGE on the back of my pcgamer and checked out the website to see that a level 20 Air Elementalist account was being sold for like $500. Now is this legal? I was under the impression that it was all Arena Net property and we just had access to it thru our accounts. However this website is on the contrary and since it was published on the (back) cover of pcgamer it must be legal. Is this so? Cuz i got a level 20 Necro/Monk that i would like to make 400$ off of

As far as I know it's illegal. If they'll allow a licensed company to do this than they're very hypocritical. This company shouldn't be allowed to do it if standard users are not allowed to do it. Standard users have their accounts banned for selling anything in real life, a company should also.

illegal.. i wouldent go as far to say that.. as they seem to have found a loop-hole.
"blah blah im selling the time it took to create this char. yadda yadda." i have sold to IGE in a few other games sold my lineage two cash for a good 170 US, keep in mind IGE buys low and sells high. so dont expect anyware near 400 for your toon. |

I would not say illegal but probably against game policies....most gaming companies have rules against selling anypart of the game wether cash, items, weapons ,armor, accounts(for real life items currency ect ect)...but this does not stop players from buying/selling. It is ok to trade accounts by many companies but if you want to know more look at A.nets rules and regulations

Toons
Toons is not a good name for anything not related to 5 year old children. Toons extemely annoys me and there is no relationship between gw and cartoons. If this was a game with crappy graphics like WoW where the characters look like cartoons than i would not complain however this is not the case and this game's graphics are very pretty. Guild Wars Rep please read this post and tell me what the deal is.

It is illegal to sell your account, however there are numerous loopholes you can utilize. For instance, you could sell your left shoelace for 400$ American, and as a bonus the person who purchased your shoelace would also be given your CD key, account name and password. It's shady, but welcome to the legal system.

Its a gaming term much the same as saying char...would it be ok for me to start screaming and cussing at a player who uses this instead of spelling out the full word because i dont like abreviations? Hardly ...and the fact that you say that is not a good name for anything not related to a five year old is quite insulting as i plan on becoming an animist some day. The fact that a player might say toon has nothing to do with the graphics of this game, and as for throwing a fit over a player saying that...kinda makes you seem more childish than the 5 year olds watching cartoons

Not a damn thing wrong with cartoons. And seeing how this game is animated I think the term "toon" fits the character quite well, if you don???t like then oh well.
p.s. toon! |

its the same way people sell items or gold on ebay, they have a disclaimer that says all items/characters or whatever remain propterty of arena net, and people are paying for the time it took for the guy to find the item/level up the character
its legal, sell it if u want, but i cant understand these people that buy that stuff, isnt the point of this game to build your own character? |

Actually the truth is even with the disclaimer this activity is against the EULA of an online game. Now what's interesting is that it hasn't been proven if EULAs are TRUELY held up in court. So weather or not it's truely illegal is up in the air.
Reguardless any company who owns an MMORPG will tell you that it is, in fact, illegal. If Anet knows you are doing this they will likely ban your account. |

I read in a Magazine which i cannot find for the life of me that it was legal as and that Sony was the only company doing something about it which was making a ingame way to do it and that way Sony would get the extra middle man percentile instead of some website. I do not know what game they are developing this for but it was a credible magazine and SoE seems to be on the ball atm. Anyone else have something to say bout this?

I have just read in the Terms of Use that it is against the Terms of Use but i don't see how IGE is still doing this and so openly if it is against the ToU of GW. I really just don't understand and definitly no longer plan on selling my account because of the potential problems that exist

Hmm, it is impossible to stop these kind of sales, just like how no matter how hard companies try, they will not stop piracy. A-net should embrace it and be the middle man and make some cash, then put out more updates =P
