Frankly, I don't care what people ascend at. They stay out of my buisness, I stay out of theirs. They're not hurting anyone. Why should I care?

There's a link on the front page of this site to look at guild ladder standings. Take a peek. Negative Zero was one fo the first guilds to hold the #1 rank. Kudos to them on that. But apparently they got bored waiting for competition and several members bought more copies and made more bogus, meaning its the same people with a new guild name. Look at the names. Positive Zero, Negative Zero and the abbreviations of 3 letter names. You'll notice the same 3-4 guilds have done this and hog all the top spots. Augury Rock is in the Crystal Desert. You will get there eventually if you do all the missions. Then you have to do 3 quests from there and once you do all 3 successfully, you fight a "mirror" image of yourself. It's not really a mirror as you'll see when you fight it. Once you beat that, you "Ascend", meaning even if you're level 4 when you fight it, if you win, bingo you're level 20. Does this help explain my point any better? You're right, it doesn't affect anyone. I don't know why I even brought any of this up. No one plays this game to actually compete in PvP or cares about the PvP guild ladder ranking system. What was I thinking? Sorry I made all the fan bois sweat with anything negative to consider. My bad. |

Well, first of all... They can also make it to draknor's forge (or whatever its called), the place after ascention + Dragons lair... but hey, i dont know about you... but most people have to have money / supplies to buy armor and other things they need, so really... its like switching your secondary to get the needed skills... which actually just seems like a waste of time to me, especially considering how annoying it would be (You become the instant target for monsters, dieing in one hit)... It's not like they do it cause its fun, it's time consuming, and it sucks... No i don't do this, but i mean... if you have a guild mate that wants to waste that much time getting you up to a skill you need... let them do it, it's their own lives their wasting with boredom... I personaly find most of the missions to be fun (ESPECIALLY the wall one-first mission), i love to go back there at lvl 20 with all my chars to see how well i fair against those char. I'm sure if i made the right kind of character for it, i could kill them all, but my guys are normaly (Squishy) armor people... If you can just understand that it's quite pointless, and they probably just want a skill for a pvp character that they NEED for their guild battles... you might be able to understand, and maybe sympathize for them, considering... you're having more fun then they are, and you're not "Dragging" someone through all this boring crap. **OH yea**, another point to add... if it's a char type that they havent played yet, then they wont know how well these skills really fair in battle, meaning... they're going to suck with their character... and if they've already played it during beta/alpha... then they've already technicly wasted the time with the Same character (which i can agree would be Very boring) I mean, i've set up many of what i thought to be (Nearly perfect) builds, and then realized that some take to long to cast/ take too much energy for my character... or they're just not workable at all... or don't deal as much dmg as expected, and ect... Thanks Perishiko, for stating something to do with the topic and not resorting to name calling or labelling. I can understand where you're coming from. I enjoyed the storyline a lot personally.
Like I said if they add a button that says "You have ascended on another toon would you like to fight your mirror now?" then I wouldn't be posting. Maybe they will later. I actually bought this game for both PvE and PvP and would like to be in the top 20 or so one day with our guild. I'd just like to think I'm fighting guilds that are real and only appear there one time. Not 4 different slots of the same guild in the top 10. |

After wading through all the unproductive off topic silly and at times rude statements, I felt it important to respond to Maegi's initial post.
Having been in gaming since 96, it is always alarming to see a group of high levels pushing a low level through a process that to some is already easy enough. Why would a group be so willing to shield a baby through the many missions passing up experience, loot and gold? Maybe the first times to see if it can be done but now it is an epidemic....doesn't anyone ask why? Was this common in Beta and those of us who came on board at retail are unaware of it? If the issue is such a none issue then why not? I think Maegi has a point that so many seem too blind by their self importance in anger management to see. There is a very real issue that is posted on many other boards regarding the growing trend of mirror guild images to hold levels in the PVP Guild Ladder. I think the fact that someone stepped up to bring it to light in an official forum is needed. There is no true grind in this game. It is fun and I too play for the story not just to reach the end destination. I just hope the end destination isn't filled with one or two guilds who have made any true PVP Guild Rankings a joke by controlling all the rungs with bogus accounts. Note added ...I wondered what the scam was and I think all the sigils on ebay is the answer. Farming has arrived. Last edited by Mystykia; May 25, 2005 at 01:08 AM // 01:08.. |

This reminds me of an issue I had with a game called "Crimsonland" about a year ago.
Basically if you did really well in the game your top score would get uploaded to the online database. For a while I was proud to hold the top spots in several levels (out of 50 levels) and a good number of top 10 (scores that show up on the first screen). Unfortunately soon the cheaters took over, posting absolutely impossible scores. Plus there was somebody who kept padding the top score. For you see, there was no way to restrict one game account to a single score and the simple act of changing your name was enough to register it as a second person. You had this one really good player whose goal it was to completely wipe the top ten clean of anybody else. Holding the top score position wasn't enough for this egotistical jackhole. He had to ruin it for everybody else. 1. Arkham the Tough 2. Arkham the Wise 3. Arkham the Awesome 4. Arkham the Incredible etc etc... Games will always have people who feel a need to exploit the existing rules. The same can be said of what is going on with the Guild Wars ladder. Granted on the surface level we have no proof positive that this is going on (positive zero could certainly be a guild that wants to challenge and beat negative zero) but you can be sure that this sort of thing does indeed happen and some people's egos are just insatiable. We as "mature" people have to get over this and move on. |

I'll hold out and hope ArenaNet takes this game seriously enough to at least try to address the issue of the ladder being padded by 2-3 guilds with multiple copies of the game. Not only are they controlling the top ten...they are farming sigils to sell for real money on Ebay. Go do a search for "guild wars sigils" and see for yourself.
I'm not against people selling in game items like weapons or runes or even gold. I just don't want the guild ladder system to be controlled by greedy egotistical guilds exploiting the current system. I'm glad they made the sigils easier to get now. That will help combat this a little bit. ArenaNet intended the sigils to be challenging to get, but I don't think they anticipated a few guilds greed and the extremes they are using to control the ladder and milk the sigils for real money. Huzzah for capitalism. Bad for the game. The whole point of this game is fun and fair PvP based on skill, not time played yadda yadda. Well that whole vision is fuxxored while what has been happening since launch continues to happen. Added: If you look at the ladder, you have the guild's name and then the 3 letter or symbol as it were for some, to further identify the guild. My guild is GDR for game dog radio. So I see that Positive Zero, Negative Zero and Awaiting a Worthy Opponent, are all the same. and there are others. 2or maybe 3 not positive since I can't read Korean or chinese or whatever those symbols are. Whats funny is now there's a thread about ppl with uber weapons and armor owning newbs in the arena. But this doesn't affect anyone? Eat your words now fan bois. This is a great example of griefing from the same ones rushing people thru the game.

Is this thread a joke? Stop complaining because other guilds own you...
At least don't try to disguise it as a rushing rant. Oh no someone doesn't want to take a week of their life (give or take depending on amount played each day) to get to ascension. THOSE BASTARDS. They've already ascended the normal way, probably multiple times. Not everyone likes doing the same junk OVER AND OVER. If there is a way to skip it then skip it. So the real thing you're bitching about is them rushing their chars so they can make multiple guilds and hold more ladder slots?! WOW I think you need to get over it. This is and always will be a game. If they want to buy 3 copies of the game to hold 3 slots on ladder let them. I see no difference in it, I doubt your guild would be on the top 10 list if they only had 1. |

Personally, i cant skip levels like that, if i cheat in a game i dont even see the point in playing, its just boring, i dont see why anyone would buy a game just to cheat it. Well, people who do do this, will find them selves bored and will feel as if they just wasted there money and wont even stick with the game long. If you cheat, theres no feeling of accomplishment, u didnt work for it. I personally wouldnt even be playing this game if i were stripped of my feeling of accomplishment.

I just ran into the most funny argument ever in guild wars. In hells precipice, I went back to help my friend through. There I ran into around 10 people all arguing about the highest GPA you can get in a school.
Wow. I was just waiting for him and they just kept arguing, swearing at each other, etc. Dont kick them! They made it enjoyable to wait for my friend. |

It doesn't bother me in the slightest that some people are skipping through the leveling process by just running to the ascention quest and popping from level 3 to level 20 instantly... well... in 5 hours or so they claim. No skin off my teeth at all. Getting to 20 is not "winning".
That being said, a better design choice would have been to have ascention simply grant 5 levels/skill points. Most people would be propelled to 20, and there would still be the option of showing off by ascending at an early level. |

I do find it slightly annoying that people are pushing to ascension in less then 5 levels but its their choice since its there game. I've already gotten 3 of my 4 characters to ascension the regular way, and let me tell you its not that hard, less then 3 days of work really. What really bothers me though is the shortcut to draknor's through lomar. It's really throwing the PvP arena in the beginning and its damned annoying. And don't you even think about posting "Oh stop whinning because you got owned in the arena" because if we switched places you'd be getting owned too.

theres not much point in getting mad about these people using their guild to get there so fast. hardly anyone there will party with a character under lvl 18. i have a me/mo that i got to augury rock at lvl 14. i didnt have help. it was just my 3rd character so i knew all the missions and areas on the way there which made it a lot easier. well i got to augury rock and no one would let me into their group. i decided to get a couple more lvls and get up to 16. there we still A LOT of people that didnt want me even though this game is supposed to be made so that lvl doesnt matter. so if anyone gets there below lvl 10 there wont be anyone that will take them into their group unless they do all the ascencion missions with their guild. then they have to fight the lvl 20 mirror self at below lvl 10 and with no real skill. they will be stuck there until they go out and get some more exp and skill. so its not such a big deal.

Just curious..... I plan on working my way up to the ascention. However, when one picks the other option at the beginning of the game to start as a level 20 for PvP, can they still go through the pre and post searing and do the quests and unlock the skills, or are they just stuck with the arenas?
