I don't know if this helps but
I am 15 r/mo and here is a list of the skills I use most often and i just made it to that area 1st I go with henchmen (assuming you do too) skills Ignite Arrows Dual Shot Distracting Shot Whichever skill lets you bring your pet Troll Ungulent (spelling probably incorrect, sorry) Reversal of Fortune Vital Blessing Shielding Hands Other skills I've tried Serpent's Quickness Whirling Defense Succor I hope that helps. There are other skills, but these keep me mostly alive =D. I just try and look at the DP as a "mere flesh wound" and keep going until the DP is too high. After that I travel back to town, rinse and repeat. Unless I join a group =). |

hmm... up to Lions Arch, the skills aren't great... but here are some skills that you should use making your build... just going to list some good ones...
Judge's Insight (Grendich Courthouse) Point Blank Shot/Hunter's Shot/Penetrating Attack Distracting Shot Apply Poison Choking Gas (not sure how early you can get this one) Troll Unguent Whirling Defense/Dodge/Storm Chaser/Dryder's Defense (running to areas... especially useful for desert) Balthazar's Aura (AoE dmg) those are just a few... ignite arrows sucks... dual shot is only good in certain instances. |

Dual shot I think you get pretty early on. I thought you got that in Ascalon. Poison arrow is an Elite you learn from a boss mob just south of Droknars Forge. Choking Gas you get I think either in Droknars Forge or around that area.
I don't know, I hardly use the Choking Gas, energy usage is to high for my personal tastes, while I use Dual shot a lot. With my expertise, it's like 150% damage for two energy. |

To add:
You can get Apply Poison (different from Poison Arrow) in Ascalon Settlement -- an easy trek from Lion's Arch. |

Choking gas you can use a signet on Rotscale (bone dragon) to steal he appears in a few locations. Probably the easiest one will be later on in Riverside Province mission. He also appears I believe in Sanctum Cay mission. Later on you can also use a sp if you want but its easier just to cap early. I used it for a bit the interrupt can be a hassle if used on a group of casters..but its now just a wasted slot I use for other things.

I got choking gas much earlier, although I confess that I don't remember where (LA or earlier I think).

I remember where I picked up choking gas - right outside Lion's Arch on the Signet of Capture quest. There was a ranger boss a short distance North of LA who I captured it from.

I think a lot of it is trial and error when you first start off in LA. It will get much more easy as you go along. Also What type of bow are you using? This is a great area to start looking at upgrading your bow. Just make sure it isn't a reward item or a collerctors item because you will not be able to salveage your upgrades back out of it when you're ready for a new one.
