an order of towns/quest you must do? - Guild Wars Forums

if you only follow the missions, you will miss some towns. Serenity Temple (north of Fort Ranik) is a most do because u can get free skills quests from NPCs there.

I am not sure of any set towns you must do outside of the one mission that gets you to the desert. I am sure I ran from one mission area to another skipping the mission it self but I can only remember doing that once (I like the 1000xp and skill point plus the additional 1000 xp you can get from bonuses :-) ) but generally I have done each of the missions so I am not sure if there other missions like the one above that you have to do.

Now in regards to Quests, I don't think there is one quest you must do. Those are generally to get you XP, free items and free skills. I'd say if any quest is a necessity, I'd say the Capture Signet quest in Lion's Arch is one since you know have the ability to capture elite skills. In fact you don't even have to complete that quest but you will. He gives you your first Capture Signet and tells you to go capture a skill and return to him. So as soon as you capture your first Elite Skill return to him and get the quest.

Passing on towns, though, may cause you to miss skills that you can either buy or get through quests offered there so I wouldn't suggest it.
