Question on changing secondary prof, not what you're thinking...
This question has bothered me for a bit, and after searching for it I seem to have found no answer. Lets see:
Say I have 2 PvE characters. 20 W/Mo 20 E/Me Still with me? These would both be level 20 with all skills for their professions unlocked. Now, What if I want my Elementalist to be a E/Mo? I'll change to monk, but will I get the unlocked ones that my W/Mo already has or will I have nothing for my secondary of monk, and be forced to earn the monk skills again? As I get closer to the 20 W/Mo, 20 E/Me goal myself, this is starting to worry me. |

Once you change your secondary profession to monk with your E/Me, you would have to gain all of those monks skills on your Elementalists even though you've already have done so on a W/Mo. This is because you unlock skills, spells, runes, etc. with your RP characters to choose at your own leisure with PVP toons, but this doesn't affect other RP characters in turn (unless it's through Storage, where gold and items are transferable). Lets say that your W/Mo was your first character and you decide to create another one that's W/E. Would it make sense to have skills such as Hundred Blades, Sprint, and other countless warrior skills available to you right off the bat (although this would be very useful and relieving for someone who's already finished the game and would like it to be less "grinding" afterwards, but that's an uneasy suggestion left for the devs)? It sure would be nice if this were true.. But in any case, when you re-roll a character's secondary profession, you're asking to start a vital part of that character's life anew, so you just gotta hunt down those skills again. Yup, tough info to take in. But something very relieving about changing your secondary profession is that all of your mesmer skills return to your skills list if you change from E/Me to E/Mo and back to E/Me. It's the same when you go back to a E/Mo for an infinite amount of times - your skills will still be there for that specific character. Again, this only applies for your character as an individual, unaffected by the progression of your other characters.

I know it wouldn't work if a newly created character started with skills, but when you switch professions why not let you have unlocked skills? At that point you're at the endgame, and a custom premade would be able to do it. This only makes the 4 character slots more annoying. Now I have to use premades and another slot to switch :/
For the primary getting unlocked skills, why not let it happen, but after ascending or something... |
