The problem I have is with me being limited to level 20 when monsters are level 24. Strategy or not, it is virtually impossible to lure the enemies just one at a time and take them down, recover, and then take on another. Even if this was possible to do, it would take you like 10 minutes just to take out one of dozens of groups of monsters that await you in later points of the game. I'm carrying around a max damage sword with 10 strength and swordsmanship but it can't compare to the 18 damage an Ice Imp's maelstrom deals every second. One shot of a Siege Ice Golem's ice needle hits for 70+ damage and knocks me over. How can my 15 damage with this "strongest" damage dealing sword compare to a group of 4 of either of those?
How many players have ventured outside of town without a monk in post-searing Ascalon? There is little strategy involved in being a monk: heal. Yet, they are the most sought after character in any group. Oh yes, the game is very balanced indeed... I know that is what their profession does, but a fighter henchman does just as good a job as I do consider he doesn't have the advantage of two classes. But the AI of a healer hench... she doesn't do a very good job until she is level 20. If the healer was as good as the real thing, players would have no problem when I say to our group "let's just take the healer hench". There is one strategy in this game: strength in numbers. |
