Wow, almost the same exact thing I was thinking when i had to face my so called "mirror". I spent a long time making a healing/prtection monk. It was a very very effective healer. The mirror forced me to change to a smitting monk to defeat him. I didn't want a smiting monk |

I would poisin myself with chiblains, then plague touch it onto him, bleed myself with signet of agony, then plague touch it onto him. Then just plague touch for the rest of the match. He will plague touch conditions to you and you just touch them right back. He will also occasionally use dark pact, which hurts him more than it will you. And near the end of the fight, it will start to look bad for you, he will have more hp left than you and you will be loosing the fight. When he will take a break to cast malign intervention on you because you are close to dying. Then he will cast death nova on himself because HE is close to dying. Then you get the fun cutscene. You die from the death nova, and a bone horror comes out of your body, from the malign intervention, as you are simultaniously ressed. Then the bone horror attacks you for the rest of the cutscene. I love it. |

I have to say that the fight isn't about twitch skills, its all about intelect. Both my fights so far have been done in under 15 sec. My first fight was with a W/N, my second with a E/Mo. With the W/N, i just put on a bunch of sacrifice health spells, an low and behold, he just about killed himself. I finnished the last of him in 2 hits. My second fight went faster, i put on armor of frost, meteor shower, and a couple quick fire spells. He imediatly put the armor on giving him a negative to fire, and i showered him. You just have to see what spells would be potentialy really stupid together and count on him to do it.

Balthazar's Sprit and Divine Boon.
No need for smiting. No need for 2nd profession. A healer Monk can take down the mirror with no problems at all in less than 10 seconds. Forget the axe and bow - You can wield them if you want! Anyone can! Just doesn't mean you are going to be good at them! |

As mentioned by Jana, who used only "Bane Signet & Healing Breeze", I tried a similar approach with the addition of empathy (mes skill) and that smiting prayers AoE skill and was able to defeat the mirror in about 1 minute.
Since it kept on spamming empathy on me as well, I could only use the skills to attack, but the added empathy did the trick - especially when the mirror uses the bow to attack. |

Alright, I'm to tired to read the entire thread, but I'll post my two cents on the matter.

You know, I've been grinding my way through Ascension, having a good time, but ultimately really looking forward to beating my Mirror self. I learned some tricks beforehand, but didn't look up any strategy for Mesmer/Elementalist because I had faith in myself that I could figure it out.
I was dead wrong. I was also dead. Again. And again. I really disagree that it's a mirror image it all. It doesn't look like me. It uses a bow and an axe, which I don't. It's not wearing my Equipment. Hell, it doesn't even cast spells. I'm fighting a R/W here, not my mirror. The problems I've come up with are these: I fill up my skill bar with Enchantments and Shatter Enchantment. This doesn't work, considering he doesn't bother to cast anything on himself, but goes straight to attacking me. I use Empathy and try and strafe it out. Doesn't work, Empathy runs out, and when I pause to recast, he gets me. Also, it doesn't help I'm not very good at strafing. This is the one area I can really work on. I use Elementalist, (My secondary) spells. This doesn't work considering he doesn't use them. While I'm casting, he kills me. I managed to get through two or so spells before I was dead anyway. I tried it again and this time, I thought, well, the problem is him damaging me for so much. I can slow him down. But, by slowing him down with a spell, I allow him to slow me down as well, which means, since he outdamages me in the first place, I have to kill him with Empathy. However, since he's slowed down, Empathy wears off before he's dead, and instead, I'm the dead one. I could go on, but, in the end, what I'm trying to say is, this isn't a Mirror battle, at all. I agree with Overthehill in that regard. In addition, nothing's working and I'm finding myself pretty frustrated, add to that bad loading times to and from, and a 5 second lag when I skip the cut scene..and I'm not a happy camper. I don't know, I guess I just needed to vent. I've read everything people have said, tried the strategies, and I know I'll get it eventually. It just sucks right now. |

i do know one reason why the mirror self using a chaos axe and bow isnt so bad at least for monks. im trying to get past it with a me/mo and tried something that if he was using a wand, staff, or bow it would have worked. i ran right up to him and used symbol of wrath and balthazar's aura together and then started attacking with my staff. the only thing that kept it from working was that stupid axe.

Another way to beat the mirror
Ok. 1) I agree the axe and bow sucketh. BUT it IS a challenge!
2) I used the above-mentioned skill set, and all I did was come to a draw over and over again. In case no one knows, this seems to be an AI mirror. It will learn from you if you take over 2 minutes and repeat your attempts. So, what do you do when you are frustrated out of your mind continuously coming to a standstill of It can't kill me and I can't kill it? The AI uses spells from 1 - 8 in that order. So, useless spells you want it to use to lose energy etc. put in 1-3. Mirror will cast without thinking. The spells you will use first start in 8 and go to 5. Random if you want thru those. Remember, it will attack no matter what. I am a Mo/Me... I ended up using the advice on changing attribute points > Maxed Smite and upped DF lowered HP and PP, kept 4 in Illusion Magic. my spell set was in order: 1) Protective Bond (-1 energy regen) 2) Holy Veil ( -1 energy regen) 3) Life Attunement (-1 energy regen) 4) Bane Signet 5) Holy Strike 6) Banish 7) Symbol of Wrath 8) Spirit Shackles ( target loses 5 energy on attack) so, again , I followed advice and immediately hit attack on entry, then Spirit Shackles, then banish, then bane, then holy strike, then symbol of wrath, and continued casting and shooting based on recycle of spell. I killed mirror in less 50 secs and won bonus as well. GL to you all. Remember to study your skill sets and use them to your advantage. As they say above, you will probably use skills you never do normally if you are a healing monk. That line up is something I have never used before and hardly ever have any direct dmg spells up at all. |

you must really be kiddng OverTheHill ...
your point is irrelevant. so what if the mirror image weilds a halberd ... the mirror image battle isn't meant to compare your weapons in a 'mines bigger' contest. Firstly his healing WILL out do your 10 fold ... so if you were to get your panties in a knicker over something it would be wiser to start from there as you can innevidebly heal yourself till the cows come home and he can't kill you. Point of the battle is to 'ascend' like a god ... a chosen one. You think they just grab Pitney from ashford and say 'hey bud ... wanna ascend?' It must be a challenge to get users to think 'outside' of the normal boring roles they play ... these mirrors are made to completely destroy you in your normal role ... so get uncomfortable and listen to the thread above .... every profession has the same frustrations as you. But we all had to find a way around to beat it. |

Well, I ascended last night and all I used was Healing Breeze in the end. No other skills at all. Didn't change any of my attributes. Just keep Healing Breeze on yourself, and whack the mirror with your wand. It worked, although it was close, I think I had a slither of energy left, but the mirror still went down first.

heres a big tip for any monk builds that can get close enough to stand melee with their mirror ... equip heal area and dont use it on your self, the mirror will use it, you should take advantage of the time he is using that to get do some damage

I think warriors have it easy though. You can easily chain together some adrenaline skills that completely destroy the mirror. I went in with my w/mo with her skill set unchanged and completely destroyed the mirror in under 5 seconds =/

ummm hahaha ... i have to disagree ...
the ranger has it in even better than the warrior. Load up all 5 second casting natire rituals and pound the heck out of him with hunters shot (small energy + spammable 2 second bow attack) took me less than 30 seconds to whoop his sry but meanwhile the whole time he is kneeling (i like to think of it as grovelling) casting the rituals (which in turn make my bow attacks better) hands down i got hit with 1 hunters shot. ranger has it! |

Actually, the mirror image test provides two vital functions:
1.) It requires thought and skill, and advances your character upon completion to the next chapter of the story. 2.) It seperates those with playing skills from those who until this point have remained clueless; and forces them to either adopt strategy or simply remain at this point until they do. I honestly hope nobody posts the "easy way to beat your ascension test" guide here, because you are miss-serving your community in doing so. EQ2 & WoW are full of high level morons who simply put in the required hours of brainless grinding to attain high level; GW challenges you to earn it. edit: *sigh* Several of you have already done so. You realize you are simply empowering the mentally incapacitated right? Don't come back and complain about skill-less players in your groups afterwards... After the ascension you may still find players who make "bad" decisions, but they at least know how to play their class to some extent. Pre-Ascension, Augury Rock is the cyber log-jam of idiots who have rudely discovered they can go no further. Apologies, that sounds rude. There are two types of unskilled players in GW: 1.) those that simply don't know any better (and are willing to learn) and 2.) those that don't care. My earlier comments are directed at the latter category. If you can't pass the ascension test - do us all a favor and quit ASAP. I'm not saying necros have it the easiest but one of the best no brainer ways to beat the mirror is by putting in all the bs spells that sacrifice 10% of max health to do about 10dmg. Also my fav is to put in the skill defile flesh which sacrifices your health to lessen the benifet from healing. My charecter has no healing spells so the mirror basicaly killed itself for me all i did was stand there. I didnt even attack because I brought skills that did shadow dmg.

Also just an after thought but sharing tactics on how to beat the mirror isnt what is soley helping the hopelessly stupid morons pass. Some of them are just lucky.
