How do you work the teleports in the desert? - Guild Wars Forums

stand in the middle of it, then turn around. the 4 mini statues will light up in a particular order. just press them in the order afterwards and then the portal will activate.

Instead of waiting and trying to catch it's sequence, it's really easy to do trial and error.

1. Go to the teleport pad to reset the thing. All 4 stones should light up and die.
2. Touch one of the stones.
3. If it's the correct one, it will light up and stay lit. Repeat until you get all four in the right order. When all 4 are lit and stay lit, you can use the teleporting pad.
4. If it's the wrong one, all four will light up then die. Restart at step 1. The correct sequence never changes so you can use the same sequence up to the point where you made the mistake.

that kind of reminds me of the deckard cain quest in diablo 2
